How long to see an improvement/what am I doing wrong?

Xiva has been back on puppy food for 6 days now.

I have been giving her almost half again what she gets in the mornings and tbh it is a struggle to get her to stay and eat it. I have to stay there and move her back to it by clicking my fingers when she walks off.

How long until I should start to see an improvement in her weight? I wish I had taken pics before but I can still clearly see 3 ribs when looking from above and I can still feel her spine easily.

Or am I being totaly stupid and she is supposed to look like that because her mum was half lurcher

From her pics she looks OK but I just wish she would put a bit of weight on.

She is getting weighed again on friday- I've left it 2 weeks since she was last weighed which will be 8 days since I changed food.

She looks pretty good to be honest

Maybe 1kg more and she'd be perfect

Re: How long to see an improvement/what am I doing wrong?

could defo be the lurcher in her that is keeping her slim...it took me ages to get Walt to gain weight. I have been feeding him 4 times as much as lola and he has only just overtook her weight wise. Its weird seeing ribs when you are not used to it! Alot of lurchers, greyhounds, whippets are reknowned for having to feed alot more especially when they are puppies and growing. They also burn off alot with there crazy mad sprinting they do :-)

Re: How long to see an improvement/what am I doing wrong?

Thanks, she is never able to stay still and relax like my other two. Even when they are laying down she gets up at the slightest noise

She eats more than Dave!

She looks OK to me. I do understand though as I get paranoid if puppies won't eat.

Re: How long to see an improvement/what am I doing wrong?

Oh no, she eats (just cant get her to eat her breakfast, she eats her dinner fine) I just hate the ''why is she so skinny'' comments

Though one person who asks that her dogs aren't exactly lean. I just hate people thinking I don't feed her. Never getting a lurcher cross again!
SpringerHusky likes this.

I had this all the time at the beginning with Walt..it usually was from people who had overweight dogs or are just not used to seeing a sighthound figure close up! They do eat alot and i have been told they eat like this for a few years and then it settles down a bit when they are mature. Walt is very chilled round the house but when he is out he runs around like crazy so uses lots of energy!

Re: How long to see an improvement/what am I doing wrong?

She looks just like Sherlock did 3 months ago when he was 6 months old. I was getting a lot of comments about how skinny he looked and it did make me really worried, but looking back I think he was just going through a growth spurt - I was feeding him huge amounts but he was just staying skinny! Now at 9 months old he's filling out a bit and you can't see his ribs any more. I don't think you need to worry too much.
