If I re home my dog aggressive dog will she be put down?

This is not a decision I've took lightly but with heavy heart I feel it's in my best interest and hers to look into re homing my 1 yo bitch.

I regret getting a dog from the dogs home I thought I would be helping the dog but I wasn't qualified to give her the best chance in life.

I am very sad to think about this but the only thing stopping me from giving her back to the dogs home is the thought of her being put down

She has attacked a couple of dogs and now she is muzzled she growls at other dogs.

She is great with humans but not so good with other dogs.

I feel terrible for considering this but it's not a decision I've just thought about I've thought about this off and on for the last six months.

I've done everything I can do.

Re: If I get rid of an dog aggressive dog with she be put down?

So sorry to hear its not working out, did you sign a contract with the rescue? as most rescues state you must return the dog to them, even if you did not have this contract with them i would contact them ASAP to tell them what has been happening, they should give you help/backup.
Hope things work out ok for you and your dog.

Re: If I get rid of an dog aggressive dog with she be put down?

I think if you return her to the rescue they will find her a home without other dogs.

Our local home recently rehomed a dog that was stated has to wear a muzzle at all times due to unpredictable aggression to other dogs and she wasn't in there as long as the dogs with no problems, so there are are other people out there who will take on a problem dog.

If the rescue wont take her back then find one with a non destruction policy. Some, like ours, work closely with a behaviourist.

Thanks, I don't want to return her to Birmingham dogs home. They put aggressive dogs down. Not sure if it's human aggressive or dog or both but I can't have that on my conscious

She is an awesome dog. She really is. I just cant help her.

She is still young enough to help

When does your dog cause you problems? When you are out on walks? Or do you have other dogs at home? Shelters usually tell you if the dog is dog aggressive before you take it on.

They will most likely put down human aggressive dogs, but dog aggressive dogs can be rehomed as only dogs.

There is a huge difference between human and dog aggressive....

have you tried a behaviourist?

Re: If I get rid of an dog aggressive dog with she be put down?

Have you had any help from a behaviourist regarding her problems?

Maybe if you contacted the shleter they would be able to assist & give you some advice/training regarding managing the problems you are having.

Re: If I get rid of an dog aggressive dog with she be put down?

I recently re-homed my staffy as she was dog aggressive and could be when provoked human aggressive too. I took her back to the rescue center I got her from back in september and they stated she had to wear a muzzle when out on walks cause of her un-predictability towards other dogs. She got re-homed in october/november. So wasn't in their long as PG said .

So there are rescues out their that will take a dog back. All you need to do is check their destruct policy. The rescue I took my staffy too had a non destruct policy

If their is anything I can help you with please don't hesitate to PM me as I have been there and it broke my heart . Also I worked really close with dog behaviourist too and obviously have first hand experience
