Re: If I get rid of an dog aggressive dog with she be put down?

I haven't read all of the posts and am sorry if this has been said but if you feel she is too much for you to cope with then I think re homing is the best option TBH. Didn't the dogs home tell you your girl was a bit iffy around dogs? shame if they didn't!

I have three Malamutes all of which are not dog friendly so they are always walked on lead, they don't go to parks because of off lead dogs running up to them and I try to walk where there are not too many dogs - as long as other dogs are on lead then it's okay. I can't give my dogs the freedom I would like to because of their potential dog aggression and also Mals are not good at recall so it doesn't bother me too much.

Kali is not friendly with some of the dogs she lives with and I have two separate packs in a way, she can only be trusted if I am in the same room keeping an eye as she can turn very quickly and has done. I have a baby gate that separates her from the others when I need it and have lived this way with the Mals for over seven years - it's no big deal cos I love them far too much to ever consider life without any one of them regardless of how I wish it could be different.

The difference is I chose to have Mals knowing they could be dog aggressive, even with their own but you didn't so you have to decide if you can live with avoiding dogs and possible confrontation. It really isn't hard but I do envy folk on here when I see their dogs all playing together so I know how you must feel.

ETA- Your girl is very young and you may be able to train her through this period. I have worked with Flynn since he spent eighteen months out of his socialisation training due to hip replacement surgery but now he is responding very well to the clicker and the look at that game. Try it and see what you think, Flynn can walk past a dog across the road now with no reaction at all as long as I use this game. http://clickerleash.wordpress.com/20...reactive-dogs/

Re: If I get rid of an dog aggressive dog with she be put down?

Having a DA dog is hard work and not for everyone.

With so many dogs in rescue, so many of them problem free, then it is likely that a DA dog will sit there for much longer.

Yes DA dogs get homed. But some don't and others sit in lonely, cold kennels for years on end.

For me personally.. If you can't keep your dog and you have given it your best shot then take it to the vets and don't put it through an endless stay in kennels where it may struggle to get a home.

To me, thid is the most selfless thing you can do...

Lois' owner is on a distinguished road
Re: If I get rid of an dog aggressive dog with she be put down?

So the behaviourist came out to see Lois today made me feel much better about Lois and gave me some really good tips,

She is gonna help me resocialise her with Other dogs and is bringing some dogs with her next time to introduce them to her.

And also I was told Lois was not suitable for dog training classes due to her DA but the bahviourist has put me in touch with someone who is gonna help me

Lots of positivity has come out of my darkest days as a dog owner.

Not thanks to some of you but also thanks to some of you.
