chinese crested owners

Not sure what happend to my first post so I'll try again.

Hi everyone,
we are getting a 3 year ols chinese crested hairy hairless in feb and I wanted a bit of advice please.

I have got a number 50 for my oster clippers is this ok to use on the body and face or should I be doing a wet shave? if so what should I use for this?

When is best to shave them before or after a bath?

what cream should I put on the skin and how often should I do this?

Any other tips for nice skin and coat would be fantastic, I have read many many things on the internet and they all say diferent things so I wanted to ask people who own them.

The dog we are getting has never been shaved before.

I can't ask the owner as she is coming from a puppy farm and he's not a nice person!

Any help you can give me would be fab as I just want to do what is best for her and her skin/coat, thank you.

I am going to bump this up so it gets seen by the CC experts, either Devil Dogz or Babycham (I think).

I just have one question: Why are you supporting puppy farmers by lining their pockets?

Agree with this, by taking on this poor dog youa re just leaving another to go in its place and lead a life of misery

I am not supporting puppy farmers I work for dog rescue and we have after lots and lots of talking nicely convinced him to let us take some of his dogs and put them into rescue!!!
If we did not do this then god knows where they would end up after he was done with them!

Hi everyone,

I have got a number 50 for my oster clippers is this ok to use on the body and face or should I be doing a wet shave? if so what should I use for this?

A number 50 should be fine and it depends what sort of lengh you are going for, it is down to personal preference really.
When is best to shave them before or after a bath?
clippering after a bath is best for the clippers usually. got to admit I just grab them out and do them everynow and again anyway

what cream should I put on the skin and how often should I do this?
you may not need to put any cream on the skin, again its down to personal preference, the choice of creams is as long as the choice for us. Personally I just use a bit of 100% aloe vera gel or an oat based moisturiser. and even then very rarely

Any other tips for nice skin and coat would be fantastic, I have read many many things on the internet and they all say diferent things so I wanted to ask people who own them.

diet diet diet,
My dogs are raw fed and have fantastic skin and coat.
But any high quality food should give you good results, there is two stickys over in health and nutrition on foods.

The dog we are getting has never been shaved before.

You are going to have big problems .
I know many tears who take on many ex puppy farm dogs do prefer them to go to homes with other dogs, have you another dog.
Grooming is going to long and careful postive conditioning, the same as everything else for this little dog.

I can't ask the owner as she is coming from a puppy farm and he's not a nice person!
would you not consider going through the rescue instead?

Any help you can give me would be fab as I just want to do what is best for her and her skin/coat, thank you.

fantastic
apologies for my assumption

i am guessing then that you already have other dogs and are prepared for the difficulties of taking in such a unsocialised dog, so please excuse those parts of my above reply

not a silly question at all

the gene(s) that causes the hairlessness come in many dilutes
so the breed ranges from what is known as a true hairless, right through to very very hairy hairlesses that could almost be powderpuffs were it not for the lack of a double coat and dentition.

Percy's grandfather for example , is a true true hairless, managing just a few hairs on his head You will note that his furnishings are very sparse, with little crest socks and plume.
