Re: Dogs off their lead!

Yes, it is a bug bear of mine and had to ask somebody to call their dog away the other day as it was making a nuisance of itself. It was jumping up me (something I hate) and wouldnt leave us alone so Flynn was telling it off. The owner either didnt care or couldnt see both me and my dogs were getting annoyed so I spoke up in the end.

Then today i'd sat my dogs to the side of the path so a man with an on lead Samoyed could get past. He allowed his dog to pull him over to say hello and was met with a low warning growl from Flynn to which the owner responded by pulling his dog away. Erm....i've moved them out of the way for a reason mate!

Re: Dogs off their lead!

That's the one thing that annoys me about the friends dog I walk, they never taught it recall, the only way to get her back is to walk in the other direction and she will follow. She is extremely friendly but was never taught how to greet others calmly. So she bounds up to them. So I'm trying my best to teach her these as it really annoys me.

They are young and very excitable and sometimes Lily will bark, but if the other dog looks like it isn't happy then I will call mine back straight away. Normally though they all loon about together with all dogs having fun and doing what dogs do.

If we meet another dog that is on a lead then I will always call mine back and put them on their leads too.

I think some people can be a little bit precious about their dogs and they would actually be far better off if they just let their dogs get on with it and be dogs. However I totally agree that if you do have an elderly, ill or nervous dog that you should be able to walk it without the fear of it being bowled over by over zealous lunatics like my two! I try to read each situation for what it is and make the decision about each individual dog as to whether I should let my two approach or not.
Agree with this basically.

Although Kenzie loves to play, she's pretty good at gauging which dogs are interested in her and which aren't, which is really helpful! Also, Kenzie's method of greeting is usually race in a huge circle around the dog she's trying to greet, and then stop and sniff nicely, and then run in a huge circle again in the hope that the dog might chase her which I think is good as it's not very confrontational.

We met a little dog at the dog park yesterday and Kenzie was a little over-excited trying to get this dog to play. I could see that it was a little one-sided so I tried to get Kenzie back so she'd stop hassling the little thing, but the owner said it was ok and to let her keep going as she'd soon get some confidence up, and sure enough the other dog decided to play and it was impossible to separate them for the rest of the walk
