Re: OMG I lost Izzy......
yep, know the feeling, especially from a spaniel owner.
I don't let Ollie off lead because of this very reason. I personally can not risk it (although many other spaniel owners do). ![]()

Re: OMG I lost Izzy......
So long as there's no road in the vicinity I'd try not to worry too much. Remember to focus on the fact that your dog came back and not that it ran away.
Mine run off in the woods all the time, I've got a JRT a lurcher and a mongrel. When they disappear I either keep walking or I hide behind a tree and inevitably they come back and find me. They're like little kids in the park who won't go back to their parents because it's too much fun.

Re: OMG I lost Izzy......
I nearly lost my sprollie in a field of Oilseed rape. She was jumping up to see over the top of the crop and just going further and further away.
Same dog went for a swim in the sea and was getting too far out, as she headed back to shore a big wave came right over her, and I thought tomorrows headlines would say "Dog washed out to sea" and "grieving owner said "She had such a good recall but this time ignored me" but she was fine, she was used to swimming in a large pond nearly every day. She had plenty of time spent on a long line when less reliable. |
