Re: Where can I get a car harness from for dog?

Sorry read the post wrong i thought they were out of stock rather than not big enough!
I've looked at various suppliers and have yet to find one big enough.

Can you get hold of mountaineering carabiners as I would imagine they are build to withstand a lot of weight.

One of the major point of failure for harnesses in an accident are the links rather than the harness themselves.

Re: Where can I get a car harness from for dog?

Just a suggestion as to a possible source. I do not know how much force your normal "buckles" or whatever can withstand. 45mph frontal collision with 23Kg dog = harness should hold 1800kg weight according to the harness details I have. Also heard it elsewhere expressed as a small dog weighs as much as a small elephant

I've been searching for two days and the biggest I've found was for a dog with a 48" chest.

I will be so grateful.

Re: Where can I get a car harness from for dog?

Bestselling, Safe Dog Car Harness | eharnessesfordogs.co.uk may be of interest.

Quote:
Important update -There are now (as of October 2011) two different distinctions between dog car harnesses – safety tested and non safety tested. Now in the UK, for the first time ever we have one brand of safety tested dog car harness available as of Nov 2011, manufactured by Bergan. You can read our detailed review of the Bergan dog car harness system on our sister site, where it’s available at the best price free of VAT. The Bergan dog car harnesses are available in 4 sizes for dogs weighing 10lbs to a massive 150lbs. (Priced from £38-£50)

The reviews below relate to prior to the above update and as such, are all for dog car harnesses which have not been subjected to the expensive process of safety strength/crash testing, although where stated that safety approved webbing is used, this is correct. Prices for products below range from (£7-£35).
Which seems to suggest things like Clix haven't been tested to the level of the Bergan harness.

Exactly what I found, which is why I got rid of my Clix in favour of a Bergan. I wouldn't put my child into a non-crash-tested car seat, or myself into a non-crash-tested seat belt, so why would I put my dog in a non-crash-tested harness?
