Leash Reactivity

Hello!

I'm having a few issues with Jack being 'leash reactive' and I've been googling a fair bit inbetween working and finding mixed info etc.

Basically, I'm planning on taking him to a behaviourist once I get a new car but for the mean time wouldn't mind attempting to tackle the issue myself, with the right technique.

He lived with another dog for many years, and was fine, his leash reactivity has seemed to gotten worse due to some yappy dogs next door that continually bark at him at the bottom of the garden, which has made him go 'mental' at dogs behind fences.

When on a leash, he will pull towards the dog and has even lunged at another dog while on the leash although I was aware on what was going on so was able to react quickly.

I've head about DAP collers, would they be a worthy training aide?

Thank you for any info you can throw this way

Re: Leash Reactivity

Teach a watch me- read the book Feisty fido

maybe try clicker training?

Or the Look at that game- read the book control unleashed

Maybe look at what you use to walk him with - headcollars, double ended leads etc can be very helpful

Walk with as many calm dogs as you can- and good luck hopefully you can nip it in the bud.

Thank you for the suggestions.

Fiest Fido is on kindle download, so I will give it a good read on my way home on the train, I will have to wait for control unleashed (third time I've seen it recommended for different things) but I think it will be a worthy buy.
