How many dogs are needlessly killed every year?

I was having a conversation with a friend the other day about people being bored of their pets and just taking them to the vets to have them put downeek:

I know this must seem really naive but I am astonished that this is allowed to happen, and even worse that these people then go out and get a new exciting puppy!!mad:

And then i got to thinking......with everything we are going through with our wee girl at the moment - and the vets bills we are paying (we are insured but have to pay up front and then claim it back.) What then happens to the dogs of the owners who can't afford the treatment - do they then have to have their dog put down........when they could be cured and restored to full health?

Finaly, watching that programme on the BBC last night and then reading some of the threads on here today I am astonished and quite frankly revolted about how we as society treat "mans best friend"

Both our pets, just like our 2 children are our life, and I cannot imagine not getting them the help any of them need, if and when they needed it!

I never even though about any of this before and now that I have I am just so sad!

If you think about all the horrible cruel stupid ignorant evil things that mankind does to animals, you will drive yourself insane . It's a sad sign of our horrible society, i have less years on this planet now as I'm tottering towards old age and I'm glad .
