Re: help with sick dog? please!

Do the vet not have an out of hours number?

And I disagree. good vets = ones that make themselves available if they are needed!
My vet are a Very good vet but I've never had to wait unless I go to open surgery!

Re: help with sick dog? please!

Do your vets not have slots / clinics for urgent cases? I would ring first thing to explain the situation. If not, I would get her to another vet ASAP rather than wait any longer.

Re: help with sick dog? please!

I have to say i would be pushing the vets to see your doggy first thing tomorrow to be checked out if this has been going on for days now.

Hope she better soon,

Just take the dog down to the vets and ask to be seen then and there (they cant turn a sick animal away)

A dog who is lethargic for 3/4 days, and has no energy at all after 10 minutes if that needs to see a vet asap.

Is she drinking anything? if she is not drinking or not very much, and has lost fluids de-hydration will cause lethargy. Check the colour of her gums if they are pale and especially white/ish that is a bad sign. It can be a sign she has anemia, from a bleed or blood disorder. If the gums are tight and dry looking that can mean de-hydration. Pale gums can also be a problem with circulation that could be her heart, these things would explain why she has no energy and cant keep goint for long if she does get up.

If you pull the loose skin up on her back gently it should spring back down immediately like an elastic band, if there is a delay and it stays up that can mean de-hydration. If you press an index finger onto the gum it chould change colour, but the colour should return in 1/2 seconds 3 or more means a problem too.

Vets have to provide an emergency service. if they dont do it themselves then they have to have another vet to cover for them. You need to ring the surgery.

Re: help with sick dog? please!

Def should be seen first thing today, if it were life threatening waiting any longer could mean the demise of your dog. If your vet won't see her you should find one that will, they've all been trained in the same way you know.

I like my usual vet but if he's unavailable I at least have two others at his practice, one vet and one nurse is a bit risky IMO!

Re: help with sick dog? please!

The best bet in town would a vet you can rely on to give your pet treatment when they need it as soon as they need it not make you wait days for an appointment. I was with the best in town and have been for 11 years! Recently I've changed vet because the original vets has turned into a chain and I dont receive the level of care I expect anymore. My new vets has been open since sept only has two vets and only has one small place. I love them so far!
