Puppy essentials

I am getting a Lab puppy some time this year.

I have already got bowls. and am getting food when I know what the breeder is feeding, I am getting blankets for the crate and treats from P@H

I have added the following things to my basket on an online pet store:
- Softweave puppy lead and collar
- Large puppy kong
- Puppy nylabone regular
- Squeaky newspaper
- Classic rubber ball 2.5inch
- Classic rubber ring
- Classic rubber bone 7inch
- Medium rope tug

Is there anything else I need for a my labrador puppy?

Re: Puppy essentials

well I got my blankets for the crate for my pup at local charity shop that way I have only spent £5 and it doesn't matter if he *does* shred/stain them and if he does anything particularly nasty I can just throw them out

Re: Puppy essentials

Only things I can think of are extra blankets and towels (god pups are messy things) and a soft toy - Oscar still has the toy labrador I gave him when he first came home, it's an old favourite

I have decided not to get soft toys as it will encourage it to steal childrens toys.

Actually, it won't if the dog is taught correctly; ie. which toys are his and which are not.

Re: Puppy essentials

We have three young children but I'm still getting our pup soft toys as she is used to snuggling in her crate with her brother...hopefully it will help settle her

Aye, I have a small collection of stuffed toys around my bed and Oscar won't touch them unless I was to wave it in front of his face, even then, he won't bother with it again once the game is over - he wil be able to learn what's his and what isn't.

I think the puppy is actually MORE likely to steal your children's toys if it doesn't have it's own. Puppies love (and in a lot of ways NEED) soft toys - they give a lot of comfort in those first few weeks when puppy is getting used to being away from their mother and siblings.

ID tag? There's something online somewhere that says what you're required by law to have on the tag.
