The dogs you meet on your walks

Once a week Alf and I do this walk that goes down through a wood but returns on a small country lane that at one point we are on top of a hill with lovely views.
At the summit is a house with a huge lawn, and on this lawn every time is an ancient Leonberger, most of the time he doesn't see or hear us but a couple of times he has
When he sees us he "trots" as only an ancient large dog can and comes to see us off barking and occassionally gruffing, probably with memories of times gone passed

This is him

Does anyone else meet any dogs on their walks that make them smile?

Re: The dogs you meet on your walks

At the dog park a couple of times we have met Lemon. I have no idea what breed she is, but she is only about seven months old and already nearly as tall as Ferdie. She loves everybody and loves all the dogs, charges about and just wants to play. She gets on great with Diva, who also wants to charge about and play, but Ferdie sort of stands still and looks at her with patience.

It is lovely that mine isn't the only dog who wants to go charging around and playing with everybody!

Re: The dogs you meet on your walks

If I'm on the farm I love seeing Bess the farmers collie....she's 19 but still tries to entice Tummel into a game of chase(I don't let him as he could easily hurt her, she's tiny!!!) and she spends her days wandering round the farm happy as larry

When I'm in Pittenweem I always visit Mac, mac is a colliexlab and he's 16, everytime he sees me he starts huffing(he can't bark anymore) and comes littering over for a treat he's the dog who taught Tummel how to greet nicely instead of jumping on dogs and Tummel is very respectful of Macs personal space, Mac even came on a walk with us once(his owner lives on the start of the farm paths in Pittenweem and Mac spends his days lying on the path waiting for people and dogs to greet) which his owners found hilarious as he usually never goes down the path

Re: The dogs you meet on your walks

There's a lovely Weimereiner (sp?) that we see. He's an older gent of about 9yrs old. Baillie loves him and wants him to play with her, but he just stands there looking regal while we chat to his owner.

Re: The dogs you meet on your walks

My favourite dogs that I met on walks are also Sonny's favourite ones to met. I used to met a cross breed dog called Alfie who was 13 and Sonny adored him - unfortunately he had to be PTS about December time but we still see the other dog that the woman has and she was sniffing Sonny the other day and howls every time she sees him

I also met two greyhounds who are great and a spaniel/collie cross.

There is also the most gorgeous Akita that I occassionally met but unfortunately Sonny does not feel the same way so I have never had a chance to make a fuss of it.

Re: The dogs you meet on your walks

We have a few that we meet regullarly, Im going to have to make sure I get some piccies of them, theres Winston the patterdale, Connie and Tilly the Staffy crosses, Milo the lab, Charlie the springer, Missy the husky cross, and several random dogs that I never get to meet as my two are obviously terrifying from a distance so when we get spotted their owners rush off in the opposite direction . Today we just met Tilly and Connie and the tooth dog, the tooth dog is a small cross breed with its teeth sticking out of its mouth straight forward, it walks up to mine growling but with it only coming up to their ankles they choose to ignore it, its owned by a man in a van who walks it by driving up and down the lane and calling it to follow him (yes Im serious).

Re: The dogs you meet on your walks

This old dear we encounter on a fairly frequent basis

According to her owner she's quite particular over who she approaches, much more of a barker/runner off, so her flopping about on my feet is always a bit special. Emily's not keen on her (she has a thing about Golden Retrievers...) but her not keen is tolerable. Too much of a wuss to do anything other than bark a bit, too much of a mummy's girl to run away .

Whilst in West Wales (I know, specific XD) these two tend to crop up a fair bit. I think they're regular holidaymakers, i've rather impolitely never asked. Just enjoyed their friendly dogs and felt rather embarrassed at Emily's complete lack of interest in other dogs.

Which is why she's not in those photos. She'd rather stay close by than play with those big, rambunctious creatures .

Re: The dogs you meet on your walks

we have a few regular walking places so tend to bump into the same dogs fairly frequently. The ones that make me smile are Angus's aged harem of girlfriends. He is loved (not as enthusiastically reciprocated) by Dottie (14 yr old yorkie) who throws herself at his feet if he doesn't pay her enough attention and flirts with him outrageously, and Isla (collie x well into her teens) who is the kind of dog you are pleasantly surprised to see is still alive when you meet her, is half blind, half deaf, can barely put one foot in front of the other when out for a walk but positively skips across the field when she recognises Angus.
