Finding a breeder is not a problem There are a few that ethically I like the sound of (though wouldn't know for sure until I meet them in person), it's more about whether I want to choose one and get on a list and see what appears in a future litter, or whether when I am 100% ready to actually home the pup I look for litters already born.

I'm 95% sure that a Bulldog is for me, hence it's even more important (and difficult) to find a breeder who I am happy to support. Obviously I want one who is committed to improving the health of the breed - which although they all say they are, sadly does not seem to always be the case. If I hadn't met my friends Bulldogs I would never have considered the breed. I like furry big dogs with floppy ears, but I fell in love with my friends and my lifestyle fits their needs well.

(I always want to add a disclaimer as I know some people on the forum are very anti Bulldog breeders! Which I agree with but as I don't think the whole breed should be eradicated, I want to support the right breeder).

I went looking for a pup and found Barney's litter advertised - also asked my Granddad for help and he gave me contacts for several game-keeper type people he knew in England but none had pups currently though 3 recommended Barney's breeders - one of them has Barney's older full sister and the other two just know of them by reputation

went to view the litter and fell for Barney - he was still available, we were thoroughly quizzed by the breeders and I am now waiting eagerly for the day I can collect him!

Re: Do you find a breeder and then wait for a pup or look for a pup so find the breed

when i decided i wanted a beagle, i asked a lady that i often saw with her own beagle where she got her from. she was a lovely looking dog. she gave me the name of her breeder and we phoned her. she didnt have anything available but was happy to give me names of other breeders that she recommended. so i looked them all up, read about them on their websites etc. then gave some a phone.
one of the breeders said she had no litters available but that she had a 12 week old that had just been returned to her if i wanted to come have a look at him. so i did. and i took him best boy ever.

when bailey died, and i eventually decided i wanted another beagle. there was no question where i was going. i had to wait for my puppy this time, but it was so worth it
