Re: Anyone interested in a female Doberman?

It's a shame he won't consider a dobe rescue, females normally go quickly if they're child an dog friendly. I think she should DEFINITLEY be spayed before being rehomed, as people have already said dobes are expensive dogs producing large litters and nobody would want her to go to a mill.

Could you try and talk some sense into the guy, surely if he's had her for 5 years he should want what's best for her?

Re: Anyone interested in a female Doberman?

chris who runs dobermann rehoming uk has a brilliant reputation for finding the right 'forever home' for dobes that come into her care. if we hadn't found jax a new home when we did i would have perfectly happy to have entrusted him to her care so that she could have found him a family. she has a good network of foster people too. it's not always as easy as people think to rehome privately. we were lucky that we had someone who we trusted who had connections with the right people, and in the end it was actually his cousin who took jax. we're also lucky to be able to get updates on him which a lot of people who rehome their pets can't. i hope this girl is as lucky as jax when she is rehomed.

I should imagine she'd be OK with dogs, because the owner had other dogs.

I don't want to say too much, but the guy isn't considering many rehoming options. I don't know him personally; he's the nephew of an elderly friend, who's dog I walk. It's hard for me to suggest shelters/rescues/welfares. If we can rehome her privately, then there's no need for her to take up a space in a kennel that another dog is in need of. Of course, if we aren't able to find her a home ourselves we'll have to look into other options. I have nothing against shelters, rescues or anything similar, but if we're able to rehome her privately, then there'll be one more space for a dog that has no home.

Poor girl.
Are you going to get her spayed before she goes to a new home?

I honestly think it would be better for you to go through rescue, even if you keep her with you and find her a home. She will be much safer and secure legally if you go through breed rescue. Others have given you some good breed rescue contacts so please do use them. I think it's great that you are helping her but from your posts suspect you don't have much experience on rehoming.

And you won't be taking up a space in rescue if you go through rescue - it is to safeguard the bitch and ensure she is not another statistic that ends up on the freeads on her third/fourth/fifth home.

Good luck
