Interesting behaviour

I wonder if someone who knows a bit about dog behaviour can enlighten me on the behaviour Kenzie displayed yesterday. I should say I'm not concerned, just curious

So we went to visit my grandparents who have Sandy, a Japanese Spitz x Shiba Inu bitch who is about 3. My dog McKenzie is a 1-year-old Westie bitch.

Sandy and McKenzie have met once before, and both times we have gone to Sandy's house. Sandy doesn't mind Kenzie coming into her house at all. They play together really well, although Kenzie can get a bit over the top

Yesterday Kenzie displayed 2 behaviours that she has never done before. Firstly she rolled over on her back many times and allowed Sandy to sniff her girl parts. The other thing she did was climb on top of Sandy, I'm assuming to try to hump her but never got that far.

The reason I'm confused is that I thought rolling over would be a submissive thing, but humping would be more of a 'dominant' thing. Is that correct, and is Kenzie just being a pup trying things out, or is there more to it than that?

Like I say, just curious

Re: Interesting behaviour

Is she spayed?

The only times I, personally, have seen this behaviour is when a bitch is about to come into season..

No idea then, I'm just starting to learn about dog behaviour myself so it'll be interesting to see the replies, but the only time I have seen a bitch display that behaviour was because she was coming into season but I suppose it could be play too.. but as I say I'm still learning myself.

Re: Interesting behaviour

Kiva did the rolling over thing to a male white GSD about a month back, laid on her side and sort of lifted her leg for him! Only time she has ever done it, we have seen him since and she always behave like she's flirting its so funny only seems to behave like that around this one boy

Re: Interesting behaviour

Trouble and Stark do it, take turns who's on top, who's on their backs, we have decided they are incestuous lesbians!!! it's just how they play, Stark is still very submissive with dogs on the common i think she just knows she can get away with it with Trouble but Trouble also likes to remind her that she is boss

(they're not actually related, just adoptive sisters)
