i doubt a contract sent via text message would stand up in court as there was nothing signed or witnessed.
i can`t see a judge in the land that would favour the op and demand the dog were handed back , many other people have tried to obtain their dogs back via legal route and lost when they had their day in court.
Would this even be the case if the op stated that the dog needed treatment that wasn't been given even though the owners were aware of it as it's pretty much neglect? :/ Just wondering that's all as it seems sad that these people could win a case when they're mistreating the animal

again it`s the op`s word against theirs , as long as he had , food , shelter , water and they can prove he has infact been treated , again not a great deal can be done. the care of the dog may be far from ideal in the op`s eyes , but again it all boils down to proof.
if it is a case of neglect the only other route is the rspca who would more than likely remove the dog where it would become the property of the rspca and not the op.
Dogless likes this.

Thanks for clearing that up :/ Does that include if it could be proved that they hadn't been taking him to the vet, I don't know just wondered if vets word would mean anything...

No they wouldn't

If someone refuses to return your property thats not something that can be sorted out without help. Lets say you handed your dog over to be dogsat for a week and the person then refused to let you come pick the dog up. You'd be able to go to the police and say that you are the owner of the dog, you can prove it, and you want their help in retrieving it.

If these people think you're getting the police involved they may be frightened enough to return him.

Re: dogue de bordeaux help

Seems to me that the one who is suffering in all this is the poor dog. I think you should ring the RSPCA and see if they will do anything about retrieving this dog and handing him over to breed rescue. Unfortunately they have more powers than the breed rescues to do this.

This dog is being kept in a kitchen, not walked, not receiving the medical treatment he needs - he is quite likely to have behavioural problems by now - yet you opened this thread with the concern that they hadn't paid for him.

Perhaps these people have had a rethink and realised that they should not have agreed to pay £500 for a 2 1/2 year old dog with medical problems. I find that figure rather exorbitant.

Would you be so concerned had they already paid you the £500?
