I Own An Dangerous DOG :( :( :(

I so fed up, I have had this converstaion with a few people before so sorry if ya have heard it im gonna rant anyway,

Ive been to work this morning and was chatting to a new client, we got talking about dogs when i said we had an Akita the first thing he said was "aint that on the dangerous dogs list?" i told him "no" so then he wants to know the restriction for owning one, which i told him there isnt any so then he starts to tell me im not a good mother for letting that kind of dog around my children, i was fuming!!!!!!! i said i never leave them unsupervised so he then said if the dog wanted to hurt the kids i wouldnt be strong enough to stop her anyway.

Im so mad, its people like this that bring the breed down,,,,, utter morons im soooooooo bloody mad

feel better for my rant tho

Any dog can be vicious, whether it a Staffy or a poodle, but only the owners can know whether they are safe or not, some people just enjoy the sound of their own voices I guess!

Re: I Own An Dangerous DOG :( :( :(

I think that you are going to have to expect this reaction. I have known only 2 Akitas both were quite aggressive.
The problem with this type of dog, is that originally they seem to be owned by people that want a macho dog. As the breed progresses, there becomes more and more responsible owners and breeders and it sounds as if you are just the person to educate other people about the merits of the breed.
It has happened with the rotties and there are some beautiful ones around now.
Just try and keep CALM!!!

Re: I Own An Dangerous DOG :( :( :(

He wont be a new client for long then.....

Like said above, anything can be vicious or nasty. Our friends westie is aggressive to any dog that comes near him or even on the other side of the road.

So tell that to your new client!!!

Well done for standing up for the breed!

he looks absolutly beautiful. I wanted an Akita, but just haven't got the house space for one at the moment, only in a 3 bedroom terrace with small-ish garden

Aren't Akitas Japanese Fighters? I could understand people would get that impression if they heard them being called that...

Re: I Own An Dangerous DOG :( :( :(

Some people really have no idea at all... and trying to educate them as well.. TOTALLY pointless in most cases..

Akitas are so viscous they will eat anything...
pmsl

Well Honey is still alive and Kickin (her ball is not mind ya) so is her mommy whom is best friends with Lexi
I have had akitas since my kids were lil wee ones.. unfortunately some people will express thier own opionions based on????? bad owners not a bad breed

Re: I Own An Dangerous DOG :( :( :(

thanks everyone, it drives me mad, i think its so rude for someone to presume they know how you dog acts because of what breed it is, no wonder certain breeds are having a hard time at the moment with people sterotyping them, our cassie is a big softy and very much a wimp
