Thundershirts

I've seen on here that thundershirts can calm nervous dogs. Will they work outside as well as indoors? Shannow gets really spooked when she's walked in busy areas and goes a bit silly when we are down the shops, flinching at noises and shying away from people. Would a thundershirt help in that situation?

Re: Thundershirts

I don't know as i've not used ours in that way, though sure Malmum had success with it on flynn outdoors. They do have a 45 day money back guarantee so you could see if it has any effect on her or return it.

Re: Thundershirts

I have no idea what a thundershirt is ? So any reply I could give would be as good as not replying at all

Good luck with Shannow tho, I hope you find something to calm her nerves

Re: Thundershirts

I looked into getting one for Tiger to see if it would calm him around other dogs at agility, but I think i'd just get commented at for making my dog wear a coat while doing agility, and that he's going to overheat (although he is short coated - so short coated that he doesn't have any fur on his underarms and belly) so I decided against getting one.

I would think that it might help, I think i've read that they can be used to calm dogs while travelling in the car, so should be effective outdoors if you don't mind spending the money then go for it! Like someone else said, you can always send it back, or if it doesn't work for the intended purpose then at least it might still keep her warm for winter

Re: Thundershirts

I have found that round the house it has worked wonders. Lola is very relaxed at home with it on, less spoked and reactive to cars and people passing the house. She is more relaxed when out but not us much as i would of hoped. I think it depends on the dog though and its worth the try!

Re: Thundershirts

I hope they do, because Breeze's noise phobias are worst when she's outside!

This video shows a Beagle with compulsive spinning benefiting from a Thundershirt while outside on a walk (he comes in at 3:10): Thundershirt "Before & After" Videos - YouTube
