Not really sure why I bother going with them...

Took a short video of our walk in the woods this morning, this is what they are always like, sometimes I wonder if it's necessary for me to be there at all, perhaps I could just drop them off, tell them to charge around like a pair of loonies and I'll come pick them up again in a couple of hours!!

Spot the dog:

Sorry for the crappy quality of the vid, it's hard keeping up with them! I'm just glad that they are black and white, at least it gives me half a chance of spotting them as they sprint through the trees!!

and just to prove that I do have some control over them even when I can't see them!

Even if sometimes it takes a little longer!

I'm no expert in dog training at all but what works for me is VERY tasty treats (I know that only works if your dogs are food orientated but make sure it's something really yummy not just bits of kibble) and loads of silly praise when they come back to you.

Doesn't work when they're out of sight but I also found that running away from them works because they think they're missing out on something!

Although they do go out of my sight and sometimes get quite far away they do also keep checking back on me to make sure I'm still with them and when they do that I randomly give them treats just for coming back even if I didn't call them.

The other thing I did was to hide from them. When they were still quite young if they ran on ahead but were still in my sight I wold hide behind a tree (but making sure I could still see them) it sounds a bit mean and when they didn't know where I was they would really panic and frantically start looking for me. I would come out of hiding and they would be so excited and relieved to see me I think it sort of frightened them into just always making sure they knew where I was!

Like I say though, I'm no dog trainer and I'm sure some people will disagree with these methods but they worked for me! Also I find whistling much better than calling them as a whistle always sounds the same, where as when you call your tone may be panicked or angry, which will put them off coming back. A whistle carries a lot further too!

It is one of our favourites. Bit muddy at the moment but that does't bother us. As you can see they just go crazy, run and run and run and run!!
