Hard times!

Today I did something that I have never done with a pup before. I lost my temper

Luika's training has been coming on extremely well, considering his exercise is severly limited.

At nearly 9 months old, he should be having fun in the park with other dogs and expelling the excess energy of a young dog, but sadly, he is supposed to only have two 10 minute walks a day.

I have continued his training at home, keeping his mind stimulated, pus our sessions at Barking Mad Training school. Yesterday, he was wonderful, and next week he has his assessment.

We are continuing to walk him where there are people and other dogs, but still he acts like a Manchester United supporter when a dog approaches (oops, sorry Utd fans ). Today we introduced him to one of our clients dogs, who is really laid back. Luika refused to settle and actually had me over. For a split second I lost my temper and shouted (not good at all), so I pulled myself together and put him back into the car to calm down.

I honestly felt quite ashamed of myself, since with my experience I should have known better. It doesn't bode well for Luika's test next week

Re: Hard times!

I have to confese I did something equally awful potty training Kasi she was my first so neither of us was particularly educated in the subject we had been at my mums and took her to the toilet before getting in the car for the 10 min drive home it was a new car we got home I asked her if she was ok did she need the toilet she said no so I left her in the carseat to unload the shopping it was safer that way well the cat decided to jump in the car and rumage through the groceries Kasi thought this was funny and fell about laughing to the point she wet herself I was so cross I shouted

If kids came with manuals I dont think we would have them

Hey come on,
Put it into perspective
I'm sure Luika is not fazed by it and worrying about it

Good Luck next week I'm sure you'll both be fine

Re: Hard times!

Trouble is, I was so stressed and really shouted at him.

He is absolutely fine this morning, and we are just about to go out for our morning walk. All 10 minutes of it. I think my frustration is that I cannot get a definitive answer from any of the vets within our practice regarding his exercise routine. The agreement however is that he should have limited exercise (2 ten min walks per day), which is making him anti social with other dogs. Grrrrrrr.

Don't you just HATE vets sometimes. I don't know if they realised the impact of a 9 month old GSD who cannot get out and run with other dogs. It is done in short burst only, and under supervision in training classes.

I guess not being in this situation before, I feel like a crusty middle aged woman. Which is exactly what I am

Re: Hard times!

If your vets are restricting his exercise is it because he has been ill? As 10 mins doesn't seem much for a big breed dog.

I shouted at Poppy earlier for emptying the contents of my wishingwell in the garden. I don't shout very often and immediatly fel bad. Stopped her in her tracks though!!!

Re: Hard times!

LOL, every day my dog does something I want to throttle her for, usually using my legs as perpetually-moving toys! I have to physically restrain myself from shouting at her, but I have done it a few times now, I really should stop because it actually gets her more excited rather than making her stop.

We're all human, but I absolutely dread having kids.
