Rolos just been attacked in the park

he has a small rip to the bottom of his ear, so very lucky it could have been worse judging by the way it looked like the dog had him by the neck!

I was minding my own business throwing the ball for the dogs and rolo ran for one and was about 30-40 feet from this other dog that was off lead and he just charged at him, the next was a lot of scuffling/growling and the dog had Rolo by the neck and was pushing and pulling at him.

I yelled to the owner to help get his dog, called rolo and he made a move to come towards me, and the owner of the other dog did nothing, the friend with him casually strolled over and took the dog back and then he put the lead on him, but by this time i had got rolo and was checking that he was okay when i saw quite a lot of blood by his side and neck, but couldnt find a cut.

I called to the bloke you should keep your dog on lead or muzzle him cos he has bitten my dog, he said nothing again, i then realised that he had ripped a bit of his ear, it doesnt appear awful, but is bleeding.

I stayed with the dogs on the park after they had gone as a couple of people came to check i was okay as they had seen what happened, which was good cos they confirmed that rolo hadnt done anything wrong and the other dog approached him etc, cos although that is what i thought had happened you do start to doubt in the heat of the moment etc, and i was a bit shaky and had tears pricking my eyes as the dog was a much bigger more powerful dog and it could have been worse!

I have bathed it in salt water since coming home and there was a bit of blood on the paper but hopefully nothing too serious.

I guess it wont be the last time, just not nice the first time.

Oh no poor Rolo.

The ears do tend to bleed a lot more than other places.

I hope both you and him are ok.It is frightening, especially the first (and hopefully the last) time.

Re: Rolos just been attacked in the park

Yes it is about 3mms long i think, bit hard to see through the hair, the blood soaked the long dangly hair and was down his side and shoulder, because originally i thought he had pierced his side.

Re: Rolos just been attacked in the park

Poor you.
It's about time there was a law about dog on dog attacks, making the owners become more responsible, It's so traumatic for the owner of the attacked dog, it must be terrifying if they are elderly

Omg poor you and Rolo, really glad he's ok though.. Some people are so inconsiderate. Did you consider reporting them? I hope Rolo's ear heals quickly, I caught Suki's ear with the scissors and panicked.

Re: Rolos just been attacked in the park

I am sure it will heal okay, just not nice because irrespective of whose dog started it surely if one dog is obviously injured, surely even if your dog started it you would at least check and ask on the other dog, i know i would have if it had been my dog at fault, but i guess it is another lesson in life i have to learn along with a few other ones that humans have decided to teach me recently.

Poor Rolo - sorry to hear he's been attacked. Not nice for either of you.

I wish people would listen!! If you know your dog is aggressive - muzzle them!

Re: Rolos just been attacked in the park

That must have been horrible. When Kilo got attacked by a cocker in similar circumstances the man was good enough to get his dog on a lead and leave him with his wife then come over to me to check that Kilo was OK. Kilo is a real 'shrieker' when hurt and afraid so he was still crying away and cowering 5 minutes later so it must have looked far more serious that it was.

Having said that he did say that he was 'often like that' with other dogs .

I really hope that Rolo and you are OK xx.

Re: Rolos just been attacked in the park

Poor Rolo. I know how awful it is when your dog gets attacked. It's happened to me several times.

I'm not saying in any way that it's your fault that Rolo was attacked when I write the following. It's just something I do to prevent dog attacks. If there are other off lead dogs around I stop playing ball and get mine to do a sit stay or do some heelwork as the other dog goes past. Sometimes the sight of another dog running full pelt after a ball is beyond temptation to a dog with a strong prey drive. In an idea world you would be able to just please yourself all the time...but as not everyone is responsible with their dogs I prefer to err on the side of caution.

I hope Rolo gets better soon and you both aren't effected by it for long.
