Re: Rolos just been attacked in the park

It does make you wonder if rolo had been more seriously hurt, just how they didnt even bat an eyelid, they had no idea how bad it was, they must have been able to see the blood all over my hand and on rolos shoulder, if the same amount of blood had come out of anywhere other than ears/mouth it would have been another injury, it is only the amount of blood from ears/mouth etc makes it look worse but they didnt know that.

Will be very wary in future! It would have helped if they had more respect for keeping him on the lead, and not keep letting him off if he has a habit of running back.

Re: Rolos just been attacked in the park

I feel for you i really do. You shouldn't have to be watchful and predicting negative behaviour of other peoples dogs btu sadly so many owners are either lazy ignorant or in denial.

When Tinker was attacked the owner of the other dog physical pulled his dog off whilst it's teeth were still embeded in her neck tearing it. She ran as soon as it let go bloody pouring down her white shoulder and he just walked off and carried on with his walk. without checking, and it turned out he was a flipping policeman. I lost pretty much all faith in other dog owners that day and it didn't do the police service any great favours either.

Oh poor lad! Ears bleed like a demon.

I think the behaviour of that other owner was disgraceful. I hope Rolo isn't now worried about other dogs.

Re: Rolos just been attacked in the park

I dread the day this happens to Dizzy. It's a shame there are people out there that don't seem to care. Hope you are both ok.

I realise it happens and it isnt something that can always be predicted, maybe it was out of character that him letting his dog offlead and it running back etc, thats is fine (well not, but they are dogs after all and never say never), it is the complete lack of acknowledgement, and no concern to even know if the blood was serious and i was on my own with two dogs, there were two of them and one dog, they could at least have said do you need help, or is it okay before walking off.

But as others have said i have learnt the hard way in a lot of areas over a lot of things so probably shouldnt be surprised!

Re: Rolos just been attacked in the park

Oh, so sorry to hear that. It's terrible when it happens to you. It happened to Yogi a couple of months ago and he now is terrified of men when we are out walking as the owner (who was very big and tall ) came up to him to try and make friends and he frightened him.
Yogi ended up having antibiotics where he was grabbed around the neck. The skin wasn't broken, but a swelling appeared where he was bruised, so keep an eye on Rolo as it may not show straight away. I'm sure he'll be ok, just give him lots of love and kisses!!!

Really sorry that you and Rolo have had such a frightening experience. I hope Rolo's ear heels quickly and even more that he's not mentally scarred.

Oh please don't misunderstand me i wasn't having a pop at you in anyway. I was expressing empathy in a completely ineffective way They were completely in the wrong i couldn't agree with you more they didn't show even common courtesy. It's such a sad reflection of the world we live in. I think what i am trying is both me and tinker we so damaged by the attack on her I'm super vigilant and just don't trust others and their dogs sad but true.

I was minding my own business throwing the ball for the dogs and rolo ran for one and was about 30-40 feet from this other dog that was off lead and he just charged at him, the next was a lot of scuffling/growling and the dog had Rolo by the neck and was pushing and pulling at him.

I yelled to the owner to help get his dog, called rolo and he made a move to come towards me, and the owner of the other dog did nothing, the friend with him casually strolled over and took the dog back and then he put the lead on him, but by this time i had got rolo and was checking that he was okay when i saw quite a lot of blood by his side and neck, but couldnt find a cut.

I called to the bloke you should keep your dog on lead or muzzle him cos he has bitten my dog, he said nothing again, i then realised that he had ripped a bit of his ear, it doesnt appear awful, but is bleeding.

I stayed with the dogs on the park after they had gone as a couple of people came to check i was okay as they had seen what happened, which was good cos they confirmed that rolo hadnt done anything wrong and the other dog approached him etc, cos although that is what i thought had happened you do start to doubt in the heat of the moment etc, and i was a bit shaky and had tears pricking my eyes as the dog was a much bigger more powerful dog and it could have been worse!

I have bathed it in salt water since coming home and there was a bit of blood on the paper but hopefully nothing too serious.

I guess it wont be the last time, just not nice the first time.
Omg, poor you and Rolo. Hope you guys are ok now. Some owners just have no respect for others.

Oh gosh i didnt think you were, and i really do understand that you can never fully be sure what you dog will do in a situation, and so i as a fairly new (14months) owner of dogs, and having two youngish springers am fully aware that i will hard pushed to always know what they will do in a situation and even though they seem not to be viscious or reactive, that in a situation that could change in an instance, they could protect each other or attack for a reason, but i at least would be making an effort to call them back, as indeed i was with rolo as i was heading over. The sad thing is these people said nothing, and i still have no idea what this dogs name is, cos they never even called it! How can you stand by and watch a dog fight/attack call it whatever/whoever started it, with not a word to anyone! Just plain bizarre.

And there but for the grace of god go i, but i sure know that if my dog was involved whether starting it or innocently or defending itself, i would still see what state the other dog was in, even if they started it (i may not be best pleased), but at the end of the day the dogs are at the mercy of the owners so i would still be concerned for the dog, if it started it. Might well be whilst whinging at the owner tho! Cos i am not a saint, and was told i was very restraint and polite considering today!
