Re: charities - how low can they go

I realise that it must be soul destroying to do these type of jobs and I know they are only trying to earn a living but they dont really care if you are down to your last quid.

The more these charities hound me the more I resent supporting them. What me and my mam do each week when we go shopping is to buy 1 tin of dog food or box biscuits. next week I will visit our local volunteer run animal shelter and give them over 100 tins and a good few boxes of biscuits. Its not the dearest meat but they are so grateful for the food.

I saw something similar on watch dog or a similar type of programme.
This was about companies who employ the guys offering good money but it turns out to be a commision only basis, so the guys can be out canvassing for days and not actually earn anything or much. I didnt see all of the programme but I believe it was referring to this type of charity signing up and the annoying surveys they stop you for or come to the door saying "Its only a couple of questions" and there you are 45 minutes later still.
Yes you are quite right SDH as always

And that fact irritates me even more, the people that are asking you to sign up mor ethan likely dont even support the cause themselves, I find it faintly ridiculous
I have been cornered by a chugger (charity mugger) for The JAF before and I knew more about the charity than HE did!!!

That is so horrible . I would never have guessed that about you... you are such a kind, balanced person and you really must be a strong person to not be carrying that with you.

As for the OP, I'm lucky that I never seem to get any people coming to my door but it's horrible being stopping in the street and how guilty they can try and make you feel . I would like to give more to charity (the ones I choose, not the ones I'm bullied into!) but it can be hard sometimes. I only support one at the moment but I'd like to support more.
