Dodgy tummy

Hi everyone,

Renji had a dodgy tummy at the weekend, took him to the vet yesterday and was told to starve him for the day (which I've done) and was given some prebiotic paste and some antibiotics.

I've been advised to feed him boiled chicken and rice for a few days as it'll be easier on his tummy, but I have no idea how much of it to give him. Can anyone advise me? He's 10 weeks and 3 days, weighed 4.8kg at the weekend, but may have lost a little with having diarrhea, and he's a husky obviously.

Thanks

Re: Dodgy tummy

Probably best to work out the total calories in the amount of puppy food he's currently on off the info on the bag and then work out how many calories are from protein, carbohydrates and fat respectively by their percentage content. Roughly, 1 gramme of protein = 4 calories, 1 gramme of carbohydrate = 4 calories and 1 gramme of fat = 9 calories. Chicken meat is probably about 20% protein by weight when cooked, not sure about rice, but that will be on the packet.

Not sure if I've explained that very well, but you'll be able to do it fairly accurately.
