I really love this pic,it is so Alf likeWe have had some destruction, none for along time though(touch wood)Once he chewed a hole in the fence, that was huge we were so lucky he didn't get out!He loves to dig in the plant pots(and sit in them) and always greets you with a dirty black nose and massive sad eyes that you find it hard to get cross
no possessiveness,no seperation anxiety,no barking howling issues, toilet training was basically instant had very few accidents, all in all after he was about 18months,its been a breeze!Upto 18 months was challenging tosay the least. He sleeps all the time, loves his walks,is very very sociable with dogs and people,he has had terrible recall, but we are finally getting there AGAIN!!He travels well in the car, upto 14-16 hrs when he goes to his other home in France every 6 weeks,I think its fair to say he has a dogs life!!

Re: Beagle Appreciation Thread

I'm a bit late - but here is Charlie

Most of you know his story. He was the last of a litter who had been put with a younger litter of pups for company, and when I went to see the pups he just sat there waiting and gave me 'the beagle eyes'. Even though I'd intended to get a younger puppy, I couldn't leave him!

It turns out he's a very relaxed Beagle - sleeps most of the day, loved training as a pup and hasn't put us through any major teenage drama, and has turned out to be a very affectionate lap dog who jumps up to give me kisses every morning without fail. He LOVES socialising - whether its other dogs or people, and definitely enjoys his 2 walks a day. Apart from having a bit of a sensitive tummy, loving socks, and refusing to settle with anything other than access to the whole house - he's been no trouble really.

And now...what you've all been waiting for...LOADS of pics!
[please no-one quote me - or this thread will end up ridiculously long!]

What are you comments on Beagles and their temperament and how they act.
Beagles need a lot of training to show them what they can or can't chew, don't really like being left alone, and you need to be very stubborn and consistent because they are very very determined to get their own way. They need a lot of walking as an adult - although a medium sized dog, and not high energy per se, I'd say they ned at least an hour a day - more if you can spare the time. As I've said above, Charlie gets 2 x 1 hour walks a day without fail.

Overall though I've found Charlie to love our training sessions - he's not been too difficult to train. He's very intelligent and quick to learn. When I hear people say that Beagles are stupid or that they can't get them to do anything, I know that the Beagle has outsmarted them into thinking that!

Having said that - following from BM comment about badly bred Beagles - I have spoken to many owners and found that those who bought from a proper accredited breeder whose not only bred for looks, but also bred for a good temperament, have had similar experiences to mine. Those who haven't bought a pedigree Beagle (I know someone somewhere close to Blackpool is selling 'Beagles' who aren't really Beagles), or haven't asked the breeder about temperament, have told me lots of horror stories about destroyed walls, dining sets, howling, being pushy and not listening to them during training etc etc.
