Which dogs have you had in your life?

Just for fun....what dogs have you had in your life, feel free to include those family pets you had as a child.

I've had...

Fliss (1980-1983) - no idea what she was! , a medium size black cross but I was too young to take notice of breeds back then.

Tara (1982-1993)- another black cross when I was a kid who I grew up with and loved, I think perhaps Collie x Lab.

Sophie, Ben & Poppy (1990-2002) - all 3 were Cavalier King Charles Spaniels who were totally adorable...but a bit daft

Koda (2004-2010) - she was a beautiful Bernese Mountain dog and my best friend in the whole world

Scott (2004-2009) - a Newfoundland and a handsome chap!, he came as a rescue, he had been tied up in a yard for the first 3 years of his life

Scamp (1999-2011) - a Fox Terrier who was found running down the middle of a busy road after being thrown out of a car

Look forward to your replies everybody!

Re: Which dogs have you had in your life?

No childhood dogs for me I got my 1st dog (Zipper) aged 37

However I spent many a happy summer playing with my uncles farm dog Sally She was Lab x Collie x GSD although looked pure Lab.
And then there was my closests friends dog Buffy as sad little rescue girl who just wanted to be loved.

Other than that there were no dogs in my life growing up.

Snuffles 1978 - 1995 Bearded Collie - my best childhood pal, broke my heart when she died at the grand old age of 17 when I was 16 :-(

Barney 1986 - 2000 Bearded Collie X (one of Snuffles's pups from an accidental mating) An absolute diamond of a dog although people used to joke that his dad must have been a goat as he did look rather odd!

Fudge 1996 - 2009 Chocolate Labrador - my gorgeous gorgeous girl, still miss her everyday

Branston and Lily 2010 - Heinz57's! Nearly their 1st Birthday!

Re: Which dogs have you had in your life?

No idea on dates or anything my memory is poor!

But first dog was a Labrador called Sandy

Then there was a spaniel can't remember his name but my mum took him back to dog centre while I was at school

Then Xena the staff x terrier

Then when i first moved me and my ex took in a jack Russell who was on death row he was very old but so cute he was called Jasper

Then moved in with my now husband who already had max our dobermann then we got a akita, then George our staff. Then a American bulldog, then Sammy my german Shepard, then my buster boo the other staff

Re: Which dogs have you had in your life?

Oh goodness, can't remember the exact years but as a child we had Onslo the Chow Chow - he was my dads dog, went absolutely everywhere with him, and he gave the best cuddles ever - but was a grumpy sod when he wanted to be, just like my dad really!

Then there was Trix the little mongrel, we got her a couple of days after Onslo passed away and she was my bestest friend, I took her everywhere - and when I was 16, I met my now husband whilst out walking her! She is the dog that is responsible for my love of dogs today.

Mine and my husbands first dog together was Axel, a springer lookalike. He broke his back at 3 years old and had to be put to sleep

Then we had Vinnie, another little mongrel in the shape of a terrier! He grew up with our children and was such a family dog, him and the kids were the best of friends and the bond they had was amazing. I vowed never to get another dog again after I lost him because no dog could ever have compared. I still miss the sweet boy dearly and I lost him nearly 20 years ago.

Next was Benson, the Bernese Mountain Dog. What can I say? My canine soulmate and love of my life. That dog in a million that leaves paw prints in your heart. Lost him in 2007 but I'm still not over him - I miss him each and everyday and there are still plenty of tears shed over him!

Alfie the West Highland White Terrier - I got him when Benson was old and ill, and he was the perfect companion for him, would cuddle up with him for hours even though he was only a pup. He helped ease the pain when Benson left us, and although he's had numerous health problems, and some behavioural, he's my very special little man. I could trust that dog with my life. He’s getting on for 9 now, and the years have just flown by.

Alfie didn’t like being an only dog after growing up with Benson, so Jake joined us – my first greyhound, and made me fall in love with the breed.

A year or so later, along came Blue, a Neo Mastiff x Great Dane. It hasn’t been an easy ride with him, and there were many times I was very close to giving up on him. He bit my husband badly, and was a huge out of control dog, vets and a behaviourist suggested he was put to sleep. But we battled through, and all our hard work paid off – he’s now passed his Gold good citizens award – a big two fingers up to those who told me he was a dangerous unpredictable beast!! He still pushes his luck from time to time, and is stubborn as they come – but a lovely dog to own nowadays.

Shadow, a beautiful 11 year old blue merle Rough Collie came into our lives briefly as rescue before loosing his battle to cancer.

Jake had made me fall in love with greyhounds, so when I was offered his littermate brother – I couldn’t say no, and we brought Dylan home!

Decided three was the magic number and adopted my third greyhound not long after – Riley, a stunning fawn brindle lad, only 18 months old came to me after being unsuccessful in training to race. He was a very troubled dog – mentally and physically - with a lot of deep rooted problems, namely his refusal to eat (despite all medical tests under the sun, no reason was ever found as to why). I had him a year, his weight went up and down, and he had good days and bad days, but he wasn’t strong enough to battle his demons and we lost him to due to complications of anorexia nervosa on 27th January this year. I can only hope he has found happiness at Rainbow Bridge, because the poor baby just couldn’t find it here.

3 years after loosing Benson I decided I was finally ready for another Bernese, and Harvey joined us as a cheeky 8 week old pup June 2010 – he’s got a long way to go before even coming close to how fantastic old Benson was but he’s just brilliant – full of fun, very naughty and cheeky, loves life and just a smashing dog to have around!

Phew, there we go! Quite a random mix but love/loved each and every one of them very dearly indeed.

Re: Which dogs have you had in your life?

1977 - 1988.
I grew up with a border collie x - she just looked like a petite B&W collie - called Shaney. We had her from my Grandma's neighbour who's dog had gotten out and got pregnant so we have no idea of what Shaney's dad was. We had her when I was just a few months old so I grew up with this dog. She died when we were both 10. At the same time my Grandma had a lab x collie called Sally. Sally and Shaney were best friends and used to sod off in the woods together and not come back for hours. We also used to look after Sally when my Grandma went on holiday and I spent alot of time at my Grandmas so Sally was a regular feature in my life.
Both dogs were PTS through cancer in the end.

1988 - 1999
Only a few weeks after Shaney died, my dad went and bought Mindy, another collie cross who was black and tan. He got her for £5 out of the local paper and she was only about 4 weeks old when we got her.
She was a very destructive puppy and chewed her way through the kitchen units, table and chairs, carpet etc. My parents had enough and they gave her to the RSPCA. A few weeks later I came home from school to find Mindy laying in front of the fire. My parents had felt so guilty they fetched her back but being in a rescue had changed her, and she'd also had her first season and seemed to have calmed down.
She died at the age of 11 through pyometra.

2006 - present
I had to wait until I left home to get dogs again and in the space of 2 years I got 3 - 2 from pups (Jed and Flynn) and one as an adult rescue (Jessie).
