Yes Janice, but the AB scheme reccomends health testing and a good aftersales policy. Admittedly it is not perfect, but it is a huge step in the right direction. if they altered it slightly to make health testinbg absolutely mandatory and carried out more checks (I think they have already started doing this) that would mean that puppy farmers and BYB's wouldn't be able to register unless they were breeding responsibly. As there is no money in breeding like this, puppy farmers would probably not continue on anywhere near the scale they are on, although not sure if they'd ever disappear altogether.

DLRC was started by puppy farmers. It doesn't hold any data base of pedigrees like the KC does and doesn't require parentage to be verified. therefore, anyone registering a litter with them can just pluck pedigrees out of a hat.

I honestly couldn't tell you,I suspect more information will be released in due course.
I don't know if it will be just for the ABS or cover all breeders, one thing is for sure though we NEED to regulate breeding in the UK.

All breeders who register their puppies, and new owners who register ownership of their dogs with the Kennel Club, accept the jurisdiction of the Kennel Club and undertake to abide by its general Code of Ethics.

But what if you don't want to register with these people anyway?

Re: The DLRC have started a petition

i think it would go too far that only pedigree dog breeding would be legal. I cant see it happening and hope it wont, as at the end of the day cross breeds have the same right to exist like pedigrees.

I cant imagine how this is meant to work.

But why wouldn't people want to register with them ?
At the moment there is nothing to say they should,so they can please themselves.

Bloody hell!!! We agree. Must be something wrong. RSPCA to be the independent authority? Surely not a vested interest group. Some organisation that only has the welfare of all dogs at heart would be much better surely?

Because maybe they want to breed crossbreeds?

RSPCA,I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them,as for them having animal welfare at heart you must be joking!
Again this organisation does not answer to anyone.
