please help me regarding a puppy.

Im on a right downer so please go easy on me, ive been sooo stupid, i think! Im so confused, please someone tell me im doing the right OR wrong thing.
I have a 6yr old cav and a 2 yr old shih tzu. Ive wanted another dog for ages now and i saw some cross puppies advertised not far from me. I thought they were gorgeous, just what i wanted, ie, small lap dogs. I went to see them and was impressed with the love and devotion the breeder showed. The mother dog(shih tzu x lhasa) was lovely, a real sweetie and she told me the father, a chi, had a lovely temperment etc. I chose a lovely little girl and paid a £50 dep.

And here i am! Not a bit excited, just a heavy heart filled with dread Ive been in tears. My parents think i must have lost the plot as the puppies are £550 and i dont have it--yet. Basically im gona have to be VERY frugal, not spend a penny for the next 3 weeks. Of course i new that before but i thought they are worth it. Now that ive spoke about it to my parents, my daughter and a friend, ive been told im mad, irrisponsibe, my friend laughed and my daughter cried!! And now im thinking, omg! What have i done now? Is it really that bad? My heart wants the puppy so much but my head is telling me NO WAY! I feel bad. Bad towards the poor little mite for not being sure, bad for being a time waster to the breeder(if i decide not to get her) and bad because people think im stupid for paying so much for a crossbreed i can barely aford.

On top of that, ive googled the father and hes not a particulary well bred chihuahua. Im worried my pups gona look, well, odd!

Ive been up since 3am. My brains gona burst. Ive agrued with my mum on the phone, i dont know where to turn.

What would you do? Does anyone have a cross like this and what are they like? I feel desperate. Wish i could turn the clock back, or even hibinate (cant spell either)for a few weeks.

Re: please help me regarding a puppy.

if your doubting your decision in any way then dont do it. 50.00 is 50.00 the worst thing you could do is get the pup then regret it and youve handed over tgat much money.
50.00 isnt much to loose if you make the right decision for you and your family.
from my own experience if i have doubts about things then i know my hearts not gonna be in it.
dont be afraid to chanfe your mind if thats what you want to do.

Re: please help me regarding a puppy.

I would walk away I am afraid and lose the deposit money - I would be concerned about the health (not just looks) of the pup and I am afraid to say I don't agree with someone who would just indiscriminately put all sorts of dogs together and charge such large sums of money for them. I would like to think that, for that price, all health tests have been done, but I doubt it .

Also, if you can only just scrape together the price of the pup, will you be able to comfortably afford food, insurance, vaccination etc?

I know your heart really wants this pup, but this time I would go with your head.

Re: please help me regarding a puppy.

Don't despiar, if you are worried it's the wrong decision you will lose your £50 dep that's all and the pup will get bought by someone else. That is a lot od money for a cross breed and it's not even a cross between two breeds but three, ie the mum isn't a full breed but a cross herself.

You can still change your mind and the best thing you can do now is make a decision and stick to it, whatever you want to do. Don't keep changing your mind as that will cause you loads of distress, like it already has. If you really don't have the money then cancel the purchase and you can look elsewhere, it really is very expensive but at the end of the day it's your money and no one else's so it's up to you to decide As for what the pup will look like, that's one of the nice things about crosses and we never exactly know when we buy them what they'll grow up like, I mean the pup won't be hideous as the mixes are all small.

So sit down with a pen and paper, draw up two columns, one with positives the other with negatives and fill in each with good and bad points - take a look at your finished paper then mull it over to come to a decision and when you do .........stick to it!

Poor you, it's so easy to be headstrong but you have to be sure it's what you want.

Re: please help me regarding a puppy.

It depends on you personality type really. Is dreading big decisions and second guessing yourself something that you always do, or is it unique to this puppy situation??
If you are like this normally Id say go ahead, if its different this time then Id say dont get the pup.
My Chiweenie cost 500, which I couldnt really afford, and got at the wrong time(about 2mths after my first puppy!). I was convinced Id made a horrible mistake, didnt bond with her at all, and just knew I shouldnt of got her. She is now my heart dog and I love her to bits!! Im so glad I didnt listen to my doubts and bought her anyways!!
I felt the same with my last dog Heidi (a badly bred Chihuahua, who is gorgeous in my eyes!). I fully expect to feel the same with dog no4 as well!

Re: please help me regarding a puppy.

I would say lose the 50 deposit. Too much stress would be harmful to everyone including your daughter and I feel she must come first. Whilst you may lose out on this opportunity you can still hold on to the dream of getting another dog at some time later when finances and the whole situation is better. I still look at breeders etc and dream about getting another dog even though I know we can't until one of our existing ones pass on so I hope it doesn't happen for another 10+ years

I will say it is very easy for us, as complete outsiders to say things, it's another to actually be in the situation and at the end of the day I would try to make it a complete family choice (not parents though).

Re: please help me regarding a puppy.

i feel so bad for you. you sound a bit like me i want it and i want it now but then after think oh my god.
yes £50 is alot of money to loose but £550 and for a cross there is no way on this earth i could pay that. if i were you id cancel the pup is in a good home and im sure will find another good home (afterall the breeder will be £50 up whatever) and when you feel the time is right (properly) eather then start looking at breeders or the rescues they have many lap dogs.
please dont get upset it dosnt do you or anyone any good.
you know we are all here for you without all the arguments and shouting as seems from your family we just try to give you good sound advice but at the end of the day its up to you and what you want to do and bugger anyone else.
good luck
take care and keep safe.

Re: please help me regarding a puppy.

Get your £50 notes back and tell the breeder you googled the Chi and werent happy with it. Why do breeders keep a deposit anyway if the buyer changes their mind?? Easy/Free money!
