Shall I cut Lilly Hair?

Lilly is my little Maltese cross - I've always her clipped about 5 times a year like this

However when she was due for a cut in July curiosity got the better of me and I decided to let her fur grow. I'd quite like to see if she wold get a full coat like a Maltese. So last time she was cut was about the beginning of May, so her fur has been growing for about 4 months.

So now she looks like this :
Unbrushed

Brushed

As I say her fur has been growing out for 4 months.
My question is shall I persevere to see how long it grows or should I get it cut?
Does she look better beautifully cut or as a scruffy mut?

Re: Shall I cut Lilly Hair?

I quite like the scruffy look for winter Maybe just tidy up her face and leave her longer on the body? That's what I'm going to be doing with Kenzie for the next few months - she's at about the same stage as Lilly

Re: Shall I cut Lilly Hair?

I love the scruffy look as long as you maintain it and she doesn't get matted and knotty.

But she also looks super cute with it short too.

I'm no help am I

How about short in the summer and long in Winter - best of both ?

Trim around eyes, muzzle and ears - maybe the bum too.

Keep an eye on the paws in case the excess fur picks up too much mud etc when walked - depends on frequency and surfaces etc.

Use a sturdy steel comb frequently.

Re: Shall I cut Lilly Hair?

She looks gorgeous either way but I love trimming Britches and Bruce's fur, they look all young and puppyish again. I think they feel different too cos they run around soooo happy with their new haircuts and all the other dogs get very excited - bless 'em.

So yes, cut Lily's hair and enjoy a little spruced up baby till it all grows back in time for winter.

You must post pics too you know!

Re: Shall I cut Lilly Hair?

You lot aren't helping much

If it's taken 4 months to get this long does anyone think it will keep growing to a full length coat (she does moult)?

She has a little shorter patch around her bum
And I'll keep an eye on her feet.

Re: Shall I cut Lilly Hair?

Awww shes so gorg

Id say as long as she is groomed then its fine like it is i mean if it gets to much round her eyes then you can always trim her face

Lola was at palour 2 weeks ago and she is back inabout 3 weeks shes having a real short cut then she is going to be left till after christmas other then a trim round her face
