Re: Please try and talk me out of this......

There will always be if's and but's with most things in life.

Dogs don't come with a 100% guarantee they will be perfect as we all know, even getting a pup we know we have to invest time and training and the same for an adult dog.

You do have to take Cravens needs into consideration but from what you have said he seems a well adjusted dog that you feel would like a companion.

Like I said in the early hours ( yawn why do I stay up so late) investigate- have a look and meet up. Most centres will let you do this and it's a good way to get some of you initial concerns sorted.

Otherwise if you don't at least do that you will be wondering "what if"

It's easier to make an informed decision then one based on just heart and what if's.

Keep us all posted and whatever you decide will be the right choice for you and Craven I'm sure

Do not know what to advise as I am desperate for a second dog so probably not much help. I know the one I want but have to have Dad's agreement or it is a no go. I am just going to say when I saw the dog on the website yesterday I instantly thought of you and Craven

Re: Please try and talk me out of this......

Right Cravensmum, I have a bone to pick with you! Because of this thread I decided to take myself off to have a look at MTs. My OH is away this weekend so if he comes back and i have applied for a dog it will be all your fault!!!

On a more serious note, I would love to have another dog as i do think Piper would like the company (not that she's alone much as i work from home) BUT right now my head keeps winnning as its not practical for us, we go away in 4 weeks and its hard to get someone to watch 2, we are also trying for a baby and in a rented house.

If you don't have any real barriers, surely it cant hurt to see how they get on and then go from there??

Re: Please try and talk me out of this......

I think you should go with your gut - If it's telling you to give this dog a good home with you and Craven, go for it. If it's telling you that you can't, then you'll just have to listen.

As far as I can tell Craven is a beautiful, happy, healthy dog. You're obviously a fantastic owner. I think if you rescued this dog you'd be a fantastic owner with 2 healthy happy doggies But only you can decide.

Re: Please try and talk me out of this......

We got Bosley just over three months ago and I will give you an honest opinion, you are a responsible dog owner and like you say have been thinking about getting another for a while.....do not expect everything to be perfect, if you expect problems then anything less than that will be a bonus, as long as the dogs are friends and get on anything else can be over come.
Bosley is proving to be very trying. He recalls but has a huge pray drive and if he bolts Lexi who has always recalled perfectly follows, so we have done LOTS of work in an enclosed field on recall work lots and lots of very smelly treats and last week he was on the scent of something mid bolt I called and he came back....i nearly passes out however Lexis recall has gone backwards as she has now discovered the fun in chasing 'things' so we are working on that too.
Mine are fed seperately as they are raw fed and Bosley is possesive with his bones as he was a stray. This is totally manageable as we use a baby gate and the dogs are far enough away from eachother and so focused on their food that is causes no issues, over time as they become more comfortable then I am hoping to feed them in the same room but if not it is manageable.
Bosley has excitment issues and we are having to do a lot of intense work with him he becomes very over stimulated by things like toys so toys are rationed in this house, chews are given seperately or under heavy supervision.
However three months in and they adore eachother, they play in the garden they curl up and sleep together and they do communicate on a level which i think I understand....for example yesterday Bosley accidentally stood on her tail, she snapped as it made her jump and obviously hurt, he jumped back and she realised he wasn't picking a fight so went to lick his face, now to me that was all a conversation i could understand but could have never had with her myself.
There are a lot of pit falls and I think the issue arises if you assume in bringing another dog home it will be easy and straight forward and there will be no issues.
But despite all his little issues and sometimes feeling like banging my head against a brick wall.....it was the best decision we ever made he is going to be a wonderful dog with a bit of work and he is quite obviously Lexis best friend.
