Re: homeless people

I can only assume its because the dog is with them 24/7 from the minute they got them...there was a very touching blog from a lady who spent some years on the street with a dog she ended up with, then when she was back on her feet decided to make a blog of their time together... il see if i can find it!

Re: homeless people

I think it is because they are socialised on an ongoing basis and exposed to all different sorts of situations, noises etc.

Re: homeless people

I think it's because they see the streets as their 'home' like our dogs see our houses, they are used to noise, crowds, people, animals, etc.. So they don't react the same way pet dogs who live in houses do.

In order to survive, the dogs pretty much Have to listen to most owners commands and stick by them. That's also how they've been brought up (presumably) and they don't know any different.

IMO

Just cos someone sleeps under a bridge or a condemmned house/building etc and scabs money doesnt make them unapproachable, most the streeties are down to earth (LOL) and actually friendly if given the chance to be spoken to.

I am glad you mentioned the CM word first! One of the more sensible things he ever said was that homeless people's dogs are the happiest in the world as they get to follow their leader about all the time.

He did say "pack leader" but we'll leave that bit out. I think perhaps it is the fact that they are with them all the time but also that they are not pampered like babies, but treated like dogs. It is what dogs want. They share everything with their dogs, their time, their food, their love. It is great to watch.

I haven't been chatted up much in recent years, three times in fact but all three have been men from the homeless hostel! Should I be flattered or insulted?

I have stopped to talk to them when they have talked to me first. Why not? They are human beings after all and they have as much right to a civilised conversation as anybody else. More so, in fact, than the types that within two minutes of meeting you are telling you how much money they have got.

Exactly

I mean i'm home almost all the time as are a few people on here but we still "ignore" our dogs for the computer, tv, kids etc where as on the streets it's just them together relying on each other for companionship and protection.
