Re: People who make a scene when walking dogs!

I do feel that these sort of 'hazards' are par for the course when out walking, especially in parks frequented by dogs and their owners.

To some people, the thought may have not even occurred to them to not let their dogs race up to others.

You can spend your walks getting agitated and paranoid or you can relax and take each dog as it comes... if you encounter a naughty dog, just do what I do, walk away feeling smug with your own well behaved dog at the end of the lead

Why? It's not physically hurting the dog is it? It's a deterrent, and to be honest I would rather do that than keep on having my dog wet itself in fear.

.....or having an owner nearly kick your dog because they've been thoughtless and let their dog run at yours only for yours to retaliate

Yes at 11pm at night with my partner. She was on her lead.

I dont actually see that as an issue. We were in control of our dog, we picked her up to protect her.

You have a Dalmatian, it's likely you will have these issues as well

Everybody is happy to let their dogs meet a very cute bouncing spotty bundle of joy, and then they get older and the the cute spotty bouncing bundle of joy becomes larger and more bouncy and suddenly becomes a thing of fear to those who were happy to let him meet their dogs before
Then you have a large bouncy dog who loves everyone and wants to be friends and play with all the other dogs you meet, but you have to keep putting him on lead because people don't want your bouncy dog meeting their dog because they are 'rude'. Large bouncy energetic dog who needs at least an hour of off lead running can't get enough exercise on lead or on a long line and starts wreaking havoc at home, he is behaving so well on the longline so you trust him a little bit more (he has perfect recall at home and when training) but he is intelligent as he is a Dalmatian and will still run up to other dogs when out as he has caught onto your plan that you call him away from exciting other dogs with food, so he no longer wants the food.
Other Dalmatian owners assure you he will grow out of it but it seems a very long time away and adolescence seems to be going on forever.
Oh you have so much fun to look forward to and I will enjoy reading your threads about him

A squeaky toy, a high pitched voice and lots of yummy treats. But even on some days your dalmatian is likely to be a little rascal and run off in the other direction.

They are the most stunning of dogs. I always said i would never get another but my heart is starting to be swayed.

And everything the above poster wrote about dalmatians is true everyone wants to pet them when they are small. Can drive you nuts at times.

Re: People who make a scene when walking dogs!

Would have it in a heart beat. Just saw a dalmatain for sale for £50 and burst into tears.

In my heart i am not ready to own another dalmatian. Pongo was the best dog in the world. He was my best buddy.

Plus you wouldnt get rid of your bouncy bundle of joy. You put time and effort into a dalmtian and they repay you 10fold.

Re: People who make a scene when walking dogs!

Well that woman sounds like a tool, talk about making things worse. I have two collies and they have what we call "kevin and perry days" when they do what they damn well please and it's alot of effort to keep them underwraps, thank god there few and far between.

I take a bouncing bundle of fun with a pinch of salt my girls are more than happy to play with any new chum. If a dog runs over I do get the oh no feeling with certain breeds (I know I shouldn't) but as a rule I take it as it comes, they all have bugger lugs days!

There like kids sometimes they embaress you to the point of wanting the ground to swollow you whole lols xx

How about taking a water spray bottle with you and giving the other dog a squirt in the face when they run up to yours. I would be happy for someone to do this to mine instead of shrieking and yelling,
Are you completely insane?

Anyone squirting something in my dogs faces is very likely to be attacked by me then the dogs.

You might see it as acceptable - but my first consideration will be that you are spraying acid.
