beware of stinging insects!!

got up this morning and my roxy looked like she had been punched in the face about 5times. her face was so swollen and her jowles and her eyes were practically shut.
got her in the emergency vets and she has been stung 12-15 times in bed last night.
she sleeps in our room and we had the windows open as it was so warm.
bless her she had been asleep and stung that her face looked unreal.
luckily the vet gave her a steroid injection and some anti inflammatory tablets.
the vet said had we left her any longer she would have posdibly stopped breathing with her being boxer and having a short muzzle.
jeez... what a morning.
cost 140.00 at the emergency vet.... not that im bothered but the OH wasnt best pleased oops....

Re: beware of stinging insects!!

Awww poor Roxy, so glad you got her sorted asap. It's scary when things like this happen to them.

Lots of tlc for her I think and perhaps a stiff drink for your OH to help him get over the shock of the cost

I was wonder that as well.

I'm glad you took her straight to the vets, so many people wait to see what happens and sometimes it's to late.

Hope she'll soon be back to normal poor little love, give her a cuddle for me.

No more open windows for a while.

Re: beware of stinging insects!!

to be honest we have no idea what it was. must gave come in the bedroom as we were up late and she was on the settee with me and was fine so god knows. stung her loads whatever it was cos she has little lumps all over her body which the vet said will go.
i was so worried. other half wanted me to wait to see if it went down needless to say i dont listen to him any other time and today was no different.
vet said to keep her calm and dont let ger get really warm...
u ever tried to keep a boxer calm??? not easy.
lol
its definatly starting to go down now and she starting to look like my little mushymouth again.
bless her.
but i would just say to anyone... do not wait for it to go down!!!!!
get then to the vets asap.
my roxy was gettin treatment within half an hour if me seeing it.
and im so glad aswell. god forbid if she stopped breathing...

Re: beware of stinging insects!!

Wow, poor Roxy. At least you got her to the vets in time.
Is it possible she was allergic or sensitiveto whatever biting insect it was?? It cant be common for a dog to be that badly effected surely??

Re: beware of stinging insects!!

yes whatever stung her she had a really bad reaction to it.
shes due another anti inflammatiry at tea time shes gettin better. but i hope this makes some people realise to just get to a vets...
but i suppose we would not have know she was going to have a reaction to it either.
my poor girl.
she will be going for a check up tomorrow at our regular vets.
