Puppy bowel trouble

What a terrible day. My pup had been off her food for a few days. Yesterday her stool had a bit of blood on it and I thought she might be getting constipated so bought her some wet food which she polished of having shown no enthusiasm for anything except training treats (chicken & hot dog) for days. This morning she passed a stool followed by a qualtity of very frightening (for me!) bloody mucus. Saw the vet this afternoon. He was so reassuring that she's probably not obstructed as she's not been sick and is still lively but has probably just eaten something stupid. Found something weird in her poop tonight (black plastic or rubber?) so hopefully she'll be on the mend tonight. How can you stop them eating stupid stuff and making themselves ill, especially in the garden where we have hundreds of plants and she seem to think she should attack them all

Watch them like a hawk, only way I'm afraid, and check that none of your plants are poisionous - pull them up if in doubt.

I hope your puppy is feeling better soon, seeing blood in their stools is always scary.

im having the same prob. Colin seems to try to eat twigs ect coz hes teething.
when i took him the vets to register him he had little blood in his poo and it was like double cream constistence (sorry tmi) but he didnt seem too conserned as we only just got him so put it down to stress.
had to take him back today and told him he still had blood in his poo but hes put on weight since last time and hes happy and running about he has now said it could passibly be a little tear in the rectum with all his runny poo hes been forcing out, he just wants me to keep an eye on him. (ive got a little girl )and ive court her feeding him sweete even though ive told her not to theres not much i can do when they do it sneeky. lol there like little hovers. lol good luck

Re: Puppy bowel trouble

I'll check online for poisonous plants - it could be a big job pulling them up!
