Hi,
Im looking for some advice on something that's bothering me and my boyfriend. ![]() Our dog was very poorly over the bank holiday weekend and had to go into the vets all weekend for treatment. While she was in there she chewed the drip pump which apparently costs £700!? They are putting it on our bill which is now over £2000 and many people we have told have said this is wrong of them as they have insurance for that sort of thing? We are insured but I cant see the insurance company paying out for a piece of machinery and if they don't the bill comes to us to pay which we cant afford! Does anyone know where we stand or have had this happen? ![]() |

Re: ADVICE NEEDED! Vet bill
Sorry 2 hear your dog has been poorly, what I would b asking firstly is why the dog was left unsupervised in that situation?
Speak to CAB and get some advice on this, i've never heard of such an instance b4 but would damn well challenge it, good luck x

Completely outrageous - they must have liability insurance for that. I'd refuse to pay. That's like going to the garage and the mechanic giving you a bill for £10k as your car broke his hydraulic ramps... complete nonsense. |

Re: ADVICE NEEDED! Vet bill
I would to CAB too - the vets should never *ever* leave the drip pump in a position where it can be chewed as it's electrical - what would they have done if your dog was injured further?!
there's also the potential dangers of injested plastics and so on would need to be considered - all dogs should be secure or supervised when under medical care. Their insurance may not cover it as they left it where the dog could chew but that is their negligence, the only part a dog should reach in *theory* is the tube (again buster collar normally stops this - and that's at most £3-£5 to replace I think sorry forgot to add - I hope your dog is feeling much better now? |

Re: ADVICE NEEDED! Vet bill
i would think their insurance would cover it , i`d be fuming if one of my dogs was in there due to illness i`d be saying they were downright negligent allowing this to happen in the first place , especially if there had of been a chance they fell sick due to swallowing foreign objects
![]() i`d threaten them saying if they don`t take it off your bill , you will be making a formal complainT to the RCVS regarding why they allowed something like this to happen in the first place! ![]() |

Re: ADVICE NEEDED! Vet bill
I'd write a letter to the practice manager about this. Animals should be adequately supervised whilst in their care and this should not have been allowed to happen in the first place!
Apart from that yes, their insurance should normally cover this! |
