Re: Beagle Play Time!
lexie's fav toys from day one have been cuttings of sewer pipe (thanks to hubby being a builder we have a never ending supply), no expensive toys last or give her the pleasure that sewer pipe does!!!
also found lexie got very bitey after a walk when younger and was told it was all the adrenaline and that pups need downtime after exercise so started putting her into her run as soon as we got back from walk (and gave me an hour to get showered or whatever) and even now she still goes straight to her run herself on return from a walk, everyone happy ![]() |

![]() Wesley won't always bite and nip to be naughty, even if it seems that way. And confining the pup to the crate isn't always the best answer. Each time give Wesley something to help teething (like an ice-cube) in his crate with him. And be aware that removing the pup from the nipping situation every time isn't teaching him the difference between mouthing and biting. Something I didn't think I'd have to teach a dog, but you do, and now Charlie's older its amazing how many dogs I have to stop him playing with because they bite and cause wounds rather than mouth during playtime. my MIL's dog has to be muzzled whilst we visit as they just put him in a crate when he bit/mouthed as a puppy. Just a heads-up ![]() |

I did try leaving the room, which worked for 3 minutes, toy distraction with barely works. His cage is full of chews and toys but he went straight to sleep, could it be that he is over-tired? Im over-tired of being bitten to ribbons, makes me want to just get rid of him, I take it very personally and get upset which I shouldn't. Im being defeated by this damn puppy! |

Re: Beagle Play Time!
I found toy distraction didn't work with Tink during her teething phase. But I did find baiting a chew with a little cheese or peanut butter just, a tiny bit, smeared on the end was enough to make it tempting. When she even turned to sniff it she got buckets of praise. For her once she was chewing she began to relax and usually dropped off to sleep quite soon after.
Is is certain times of the day this is regularly occuring if so get something prepared. I could even be popping a baited chew in a old box for wesley to discover. I'd have 'special' chews that he only has access to when you give them in the hope that makes them more exciting than your hands and arms. Hang in there.
