Oscar

I have been debating about whether or not to mention my boy again.

A few months ago i posted about an ulcer in his mouth, and how my vet thought it was cancerous, and i got next to no replies at all. I guess it upset me slightly, that even though im not the most social of members, and dont chat via PM to numerous people nor make forum "friends", i don't feel im nasty nor rude (often) yet i was ignored and not offered any kindly thoughts.

Well it turned out it was cancer, and my boy, after some serious discussion with my vet and an appraisal of his overall health, had surgery on his jaw about 6 weeks ago. This resulted in him losing most of his bottom teeth (he has his canines and one molar), and a huge chunk of his inner cheek.

Ive now realised im not overly bothered. As with most things in life, you are on your own. More so when the going gets tough, and the **** hits the fan.

Pretending he doesnt exist seems a tad dramatic and dishonest, so im proud to say my old man has battled back, reached his 13 year marker, and is still a complete pain in the ass.

We take each day at a time, and life revolves around what makes him happy and content. He has good and bad days, but those are mainly related to his ability to walk distances, rather than the cancerous spread.

He had a great day yesterday, and went on his longest walk since his surgery. We were out for about 2 hours, although 45 mins were spent at his favourite pond where he likes to watch the dragonflies and stalk a giant blackmoor that someone has dumped in it.

So just a few pics of my beautiful boy...

Re: Oscar

Aw I am sure people didn't intentionally not respond to your original post. It has been quiet in here of late and I think sometimes people skim and miss posts that may not stand out.
Sorry to hear what Oscar has been through, glad that he has come out the other side and is doing ok. He looks very happy in those pictures and looks like he is enjoying life

Re: Oscar

What a dude!! Amazing the tenacity animals have for fighting illness, so much greater than our own ability to deal with stuff!

Well i do know there were some rather malicious and untrue rumours going about via PM, so i do wonder if that played a part. Im not fussed about that side of things though, as it doesnt bother me on the whole. I know the truth, and thats all that matters.

He certainly is a happy boy. He's not the easiest of boys to figure out if he is in pain or not though. The night he came home from his surgery he was play fighting with Alfie and trying to chew on a pigs ear he found in his toy box, despite the fact his gums resembled ground beef.

Give him a pond to be in and stare at though, and he is content. Baby frog season kept him entertained for hours on end.

Re: Oscar

Threads move quickly and posts get missed, I'm sure it's nothing personal. Main thing is your boy is on the mend - and that's fabulous.

I must admit, I've noticed in a couple of your threads, namely the last one about stiles, that only Alfie was being mentioned, and whilst I thought you had two dogs, I didn't want to ask or say anything through fear something had happened, and I didn't want to bring anything up to upset you. It wasn't through not caring or being uninterested. I’ve noticed the same thing with another member too, and again, I don’t want to question the absent dog incase I upset said member.

Like you, I don't chat via PM (other than about the dogs!), nor visit the general chat areas or make forum friends - there are plenty of members I like and respect, but I've no friendship with anyone like many members do. I'm here to chat about dogs, and that's about it! Please don't take things to heart.

Here's to many, many happy years together for you and Oscar. He looks like a very brave boy.

Re: Oscar

I'm so sorry I missed your previous thread about Oscar.

He's looking lovely in the pictures - so happy and healthy.

I hope he stays happy and healthy for a long while yet.
