can't believe what has happened tonight

I have had the night from hell. I am at my OH's mums down in Kent, OH is on a stag do down here. Went up to bed and put the dogs to bed in my bedroom, along with my suitcase and couple of other bags. Left the dogs inside while I went to the toilet, came back, and Louie had been through the bags and eaten a whole bag (170g) of Minstrels It wasn't even accessible to him, just tucked away in one of the pockets of my handbag.

Anyway, I remained surprisingly calm, went straight on my phone (thank fook for 3G) and found the nearest emergency vets, rang them and they said yes, bring both the dogs in. I had no idea at this point whether Florence had eaten any. So I practically threw them in the car, raced down to the vets...

Anyway, got in there, had to wait 5 minutes for them to answer the door, even though they knew I was on my way. Then I had to register my details with the receptionist, which must haven taken another 10 minutes. She kept asking what breed Louie was er, just put crossbreed! All the while, the vet still hadn't turned up

Finally she came down, and said "Right so, these are your dogs are they?" no, these are my goldfish you silly woman! She weighed Florence and kept saying, you're a good boy aren't you and weighed Louie and said what a good girl she is Surely a vet knows the difference between... well anyway.

Next thing, the receptionist says, right I'll take them through now. I said it's alright I can take them, no she said, you can't come back here I'm afraid you'll have to wait here. I point blank refused know to some of you this may sound rude and ridiculous but I'm sorry, I won't let anyone take my dogs out of my sight, particularly a new vets that I don't know or trust yet. To be fair, they allowed me to come back and sit with the dogs while they were treated, so I got my way

Took the receptionist a while to sweep up the room, it was filthy with hair and dust all over the floor. She put a load of puppy pads down for them to be sick on and kept saying to the dogs over and over, "don't be sick on my floor now, I don't want to have to clean it all up."

They gave the dogs they're morphine something injections which both took about 3 or 4 mins to work. Louie spewed up basically the entire contents of the minstrels bag, Florence thank god, had not had any by the looks of her sick. The receptionist cleaned up the puppy pads and Florence was sick about 4 more times (just bile) and the vet had the cheek to tut at her!

Came to £240 over all. For a bag of bloody minstrels but I'm glad I acted fast, just wish I could have gone to a better vets but needs must i suppose. I will be writing to complain to the company (they are a chain vets) about the staff's attitude. IMO emergency patients (and their owners) need to be treated with respect and kindness, not be tutted at for being sick on the floor. The whole thing was a nasty experience and I just pray to god Louie will be ok now he's been sick

They are both fast asleep, don't know whether to feed them in the morning or just let their tummies settle

Thanks for reading (if anyone could be bothered to get to the end ) sorry this has been a bit of a ramble but had to get it out as my OH is drunk so he's out the question

Re: can't believe what has happened tonight

obviously thank goodness they are ok but £240? and their attitude? not being funny but as it was a nightime surely it should have been immaculate as should have been cleaned before closing!!

Id complain too!! Hope you get a good outcome and they are ok now.

Re: can't believe what has happened tonight

Blimey what a scare and what an expensive bag of minstrels!

poor babies though, must've been awful being that sick and the vets sound a bit crap too. I'm wondering if it were part of the chain of vets beginning with M followed by vet as I wouldn't be surprised at the way you were treated if it is.

Hugs to all three of you and hope the kids are all better by the morning. xxx

Re: can't believe what has happened tonight

The name rhymed with bark and it would be somewhere that you take your dog for a walk ....

So not the other one you mentioned but a chain based in and around Kent, I believe.

But yeah £240. £115 for the vet consultation, £50 + £30 for the medication, and a bit more here and there (probably charged me to mop up the dog's sick )
