Do you smoke near your dogs?

Just out of interest?
Was at the vets this morning with Billy (the cat!!) he is fine by the way -heart rate down to 150. Have taken blood again and he will ring me with the results! Billy WAS a star!

The reason I asked about the smoking -there was an elderly guy in the
surgery - was quite upset as his , not too elderly dog had cancer and he feared it were getting towards the end! Said he and his wife had stopped smoking around the dog but that his wife blamed herself. IMO the dog did not look too bad, certainly not as bad as my Misty were !

AND there was also another tragedy - an elderly lady came in with a cat in a crate - I heard her say she feared it he had passed on onthe way to the vets. Seems it had been run over on a busy road not far from the vets and that it was alive whenshe picked it up. Glad there are still some proper animal lovers out there who took their time to pick up the poor soul and to at least try and save it!

RIP black and white Kitty!

Re: Do you smoke near your dogs?

No because I am an ex-smoker now but I did used to smoke around my cats which I feel guilty about.

One of my cats was indoor & developed a massive tumour in her stomach when she was about 6yrs. She went downhill so quickly & I didn;t feel she was strong enough to survive the operation (even if that had have been successful).

I blame myself for her death as I feel the tumour was related to me smoking - I read alot on the internet about how nicotine can be deposited on fur then injested when they clean themselves

I've never forgiven myself & stopped almost immediately as I didn't want to put my other cats in danger.

Re: Do you smoke near your dogs?

What a sad morning at that vets!!

No I don't smoke in the house or in the car with my pooch - I feel it's exactly the same as smoking around people who don't in confined spaces.

It's up to me if I want to ingest the poisons but those around me don't have to suffer it too - be they furry or not!

Re: Do you smoke near your dogs?

i don`t smoke anymore but when i did i wouldn`t even smoke in the house let alone around my pets. just personal preference really and it caused huge fights with my dad and grams when i`d leave the room to take my daughter out as a baby if they were smoking. i just don`t like people smoking around animals, children or non smokers but that`s just me. i hate it when you see dogs that are supposed to be white but are actually yellow from smoke

Re: Do you smoke near your dogs?

I don't smoke in the house, but outside, Prince will follow me out though and that worries me because I still feel it's wrong. I'd love to stop, then I wouldn't have that worry, would I?

Re: Do you smoke near your dogs?

I did and I feel totally guilty about Jake. . I'd stopped about a week before we found out he had tumours. I would never smoke near an animal now.

My parents are staying, mum smokes and I've told her she can't smoke inside, tough. The smell has only just disappeared from the house and no way am I subjecting the puppies to cigarette smoke.

Re: Do you smoke near your dogs?

I don't smoke in the house and the dogs don't come near me if I have lit a cigarette, they don't like the smell, so thinking about it... I don't smoke around them.
