Re: Next door neighbour just kicked my cat :-(
That's quite a predicament. As you say you can do nothing to stop your cat entering his garden, and he has dementia, which doesn't make it okay for someone to hurt an animal, but they really have no idea what they are doing.
Hope someone can help you with this. Does he have a wife or carer you could talk to about this, as there may be something they can do, like keep a closer eye on him xox

Re: Next door neighbour just kicked my cat :-(
While it is not acceptable for a person of sound mind to kick a cat a person with dementia is not responsible for their actions
Sadly the only thing you can do stop your cat roaming.

What a horrible situation. I hope you figure out a solution, it's very sad all round, your poor cat and the neighbour who is suffering too

Re: Next door neighbour just kicked my cat :-(
Friends of mine use these battery-operated thingies that emit a high pitched noise (not audible to humans, or barely so) when something moves near them. They find it quite effective.

if U have a garden-fence or wall, i'd put a cat-proof extension on top, to keep Kitty at home.
if there's no fence or wall, i'd keep Kitty indoors & take her/him out only on a leash; DON't use a figure-8 harness on a cat, they slide out of them; use a snugly-fitted H-harness, that adjusts on neck & girth separately. ![]()

Re: Next door neighbour just kicked my cat :-(
My cats used to wander into my neighbours garden and pee and poop all over her vegetables - I can understand why she wasn't happy!
Anyway, I bought some citrus plants which are natural stay aways for cats as they don't like the smell - she planted them in amongst her veggies and 90% of the time the cats stayed away. Maybe you could offer to plant some at the main entry points?

![]() I've even seen someone walking their large rabbit on a leash and harness, but never a cat. In the UK it's pretty much generally accepted that cats can be let out to do their own thing. Look at a couple of ad campaigns involving cats for example. lol Got to love those kitties. Cravendale - Cats with Thumbs - YouTube Go Cat Advert Free Running Cat - YouTube |
