Next door neighbour just kicked my cat :-(

I can't really moan too much as my cat was in his garden. He spends most the time indoors but roams for a while now and again.
My next door neighbour as dementia sometimes he likes the cat and sometimes he hates it! He is very protective of his flowers which I think my cat was sniffing, so he kicked him
I don't know how to stop him from going in their garden? Sorry know this not dog related but I spend most my time on this chat!

No need for your cat too be kicked. i understand this guy has some kind of dementia but i still dont think its exceptable for him too be kicking your cat we dont own this planet we share it with animals. you wont be able to stop a cat from goin in a garden.

Sorry not much help.

Re: Next door neighbour just kicked my cat :-(

That's quite a predicament. As you say you can do nothing to stop your cat entering his garden, and he has dementia, which doesn't make it okay for someone to hurt an animal, but they really have no idea what they are doing.
Hope someone can help you with this. Does he have a wife or carer you could talk to about this, as there may be something they can do, like keep a closer eye on him xox

Re: Next door neighbour just kicked my cat :-(

While it is not acceptable for a person of sound mind to kick a cat a person with dementia is not responsible for their actions Sadly the only thing you can do stop your cat roaming.

What a horrible situation. I hope you figure out a solution, it's very sad all round, your poor cat and the neighbour who is suffering too

Yes he has a wife but she is really struggling with it all at the moment, I am trying to help her out as much as I can so I wouldn't want to her to worry about the cat as well.
Do any of the the cat stay away products work?

Friends of mine use these battery-operated thingies that emit a high pitched noise (not audible to humans, or barely so) when something moves near them. They find it quite effective.

Unhappy dementia & roaming cats don't mix well.

if U have a garden-fence or wall, i'd put a cat-proof extension on top, to keep Kitty at home.

if there's no fence or wall, i'd keep Kitty indoors & take her/him out only on a leash; DON't use a figure-8 harness
on a cat, they slide out of them; use a snugly-fitted H-harness, that adjusts on neck & girth separately.

Re: Next door neighbour just kicked my cat :-(

My cats used to wander into my neighbours garden and pee and poop all over her vegetables - I can understand why she wasn't happy!

Anyway, I bought some citrus plants which are natural stay aways for cats as they don't like the smell - she planted them in amongst her veggies and 90% of the time the cats stayed away.

Maybe you could offer to plant some at the main entry points?

I'm sure some people do, but in my part of the UK I have never, ever in over 50 years seen someone walking their cat on a leash.

I've even seen someone walking their large rabbit on a leash and harness, but never a cat.

In the UK it's pretty much generally accepted that cats can be let out to do their own thing. Look at a couple of ad campaigns involving cats for example. lol Got to love those kitties.
