Re: Best age for pups being nuetered?

Bitches three months after the first season and dogs after 18 months of age, especially the larger slower maturing breeds.

Re: Best age for pups being nuetered?

I think if you have two pups it is more sensible to get the female done at 6 months, before she has a season. Vets are fairly split on it but I think it is getting more common to do them at that age rather than waiting for them to have a season, and for obvious reasons it would be far more sensible in your case.

On the other hand I have to strongly disagree that you would have to separate them now until the bitch has a season - not sure what the reasoning is on that. But you would have a fairly miserable 3 weeks when she does come in season as you would have to keep them strictly separate then which is not a lot of fun for either the dogs or you and it is easy to slip up and end up with a mating.

I think i will have Pink done before she comes into season. It would be hard to keep them seperated as they go everywhere together. They constantly follow each other around.

Re: Best age for pups being nuetered?

I definitely wouldn't get them done younger then 6 months but i personally would wait until they are fully mature for example i don't plan on getting my lad done until he is at least 2 years old.
