Question Human pregnancy

Do you think dogs can tell if you're pregnant, even before you know you are?

Reason I ask is, aside from having the symptoms, Conan has been really calm, not jumping up at me, not pulling like a steam train when we're walking to the park, and he keeps laying next to me with his giant head on my tummy- which is not normal for him, as he usually sits with his dad

Re: Human pregnancy

i think animals know, when i was pregnant my brothers Rottie bitch had pups and would let anyone pick them up, including my brothers kids, but the moment i walked in the room, she growled and wouldn't let me near, i walked out the room.
Also cats seem to love pregnant woman (from my experience) will follow you around and paw on your belly. xx

I would think its highly likely, after all dogs are used to detect cancer, Warn owners when an epileptic fit is due, long before the owners aware, and when to take medication for owners who are diabetic. If they can detect things like this then I should imagine there is a good chance they can detect pregnancy too.

Re: Human pregnancy

I know cats can... my friend had a simease, who absolutley hated me. She would hiss and spit whenever I was near. No Idea why as I am a real cat lover.Never hurt her or any thing no accidents round her. She just hated me. When I was pregnant with my son, she adored me, jumping on my lap for cuddles, making puddings on my belly, purring and so gentle. Son was born, back to hissing and scratching. When she got all loving to me again I went and bought a pregnancy testing kit... YEP, it was positive. Baby number two born and normal hatred was resumed... So I am sure a dog would too...

Re: Human pregnancy

yup for sure i think they can! granted as i said in another thread - my 2 will STILL power bomb into my stomach and knock me over but there`s definitely a marked change in them since i became pregnant with them both trying to compete to be my shadow, they wanna be as close as they can be! they follow me around everywhere too and when they do knock me over or run into me then syd normally goes into his hidey hole whilst jake will come and sit on my lap an refuse to move till i get up, before they`d just have continued going nuts oblivious to the fact they`d hurt me!

my oldest cat is the worst right now as he`s constantly smacking me with his head and become really over affectionate the past few weeks. last time i was pregnant i had a cat who used to sleep under the duvet actually curled around my belly and anytime she kicked he`d paw at it haha was kinda cute!

congrats on your news btw!!!!
