Age/Weight for anaesthetic?

I know each vets will be different but just wondered if anyone had an idea when vets will put a dog under anaesthetic?

Xiva is 15weeks and 10.1kg

These bloody double rear dew claws are getting difficult! They annoy her sometimes she chew at them.

On the one side the claws are far apart, but instead of growing straight they are curving out the way.
On the other side the claws are right next to each other and one is growing straight, the other curvs out the way. Dirt and dead skin gets trapped in between them at the base and trimming the claws hurts her as I have to seperate them a little to clip them and she cries

She already caught one of them playing in the garden but it wasn't bad so I bathed it and kept it clean, its ok now.

My vet said he would leave them until she gets spayed unless she keeps catching them. But I might go and see them and see if they would do it any sooner.

Re: Age/Weight for anaesthetic?

Weight wise I think there is no reason to wait longer...and I think she isold enough too. But it is better to avoid anaesthetic so I can see why the vet wants to do it with her spay, but they seem to be bothering her a lot from what you say, so I am not sure what I would do in your position! Sorry, I haven't been much help have I?

I work at a vets and our vet would say the same as your vet, get it done when she is spayed unless it is causing trouble before. I would take her back to your vet and explain why you think she should be done know and see what they say. It also can depend on what anaesthetic they have.

Re: Age/Weight for anaesthetic?

Thanks.

I can't get away with using human nail clippers anymore, of course the dog nail clippers are wider, and these claws are growing at a crazy rate! It breaks my heart hearing her cry in pain when I cut them and she is starting to not like me near her feet
