Poor Toby at the vets

I took the boys to be groomed yesterday, all was well until the groomer managed to catch Toby's skin with the clippers, he ended up with a huge hole the size of 10p on his chest/armpit

I was there at the time, he didn't yelp or anything, 3 groomers looked at it, one of them being an vet nurse that is currently training. They all said that it looked fine and that it should just be kept clean.

I wasn't happy with this at all so rushed him straight around to the vets. The head vet concluded that it would need stitching up under GA. They cleaned it up, put on some gel and gave him a couple of injections.

So after a night of no sleep, i dropped him off at the vets this morning and have spent the morning sat at home worried to death. They phoned 20mins ago and everything has gone well, he is awake and had a little to eat and i can go and pick him up at 3pm

I am supposed to be going on holiday next week, but he is not allowed to do any running, swimming and is limited to 3 x 20min on lead walks

All vets fees are being paid and i have recieved an apology but it just doesn't seem enough to compensate putting my dog under anesthetic, the pain he has been put through and the worry it has caused me and my family.

To top it of it was his 2nd birthday yesterday, some birthday

Re: Poor Toby at the vets

I would expect the groomers to pay the vet's bill at the very least! Poor you and Toby!

Were you going on holiday and taking your dogs too or were they going to be left with someone else? Either way, a week from now, stitches will be held together and the healing process will be well underway so try not to worry too much.

Re: Poor Toby at the vets

Aww, I hope he is feeling better soon. A 10p sized hole is massive for a dog Toby's size, I think I would be annoyed that they hadnt suggested going to the vets!
At least he can come home soon!

Re: Poor Toby at the vets

Thanks everyone, i'm sure he will make a speedy recovery.

We are going on holiday with the caravan this Sunday and with 4 active terriers we were planning to do lots of walking, so he'll have to get used to being carried.

I of course will not be using the groomers again, Unfortunately they are in the same shop and i have to see them everyday.
