Is this a Lab thing? Because the kennels where i work ive noticed pretty much every Lab scoffs their food within seconds, i havent noticed it with other breeds as much.

Labs are known to hoover their food, you do get fussy eaters occasionally, but they're not the norm.

Many dogs eat food fast, dont worry about them not chewing -

Carnivores have the shortest and simplest digestive tract for ease of digesting animal protein and fat. Dogs fall into this category. Carnivores have sharp, jagged, blade-shaped molars, designed for slicing, rather than flat grinding molars designed for grinding. Their jaws cannot go sideways, as in herbivores and omnivores that grind their food by chewing, but are hinged to open widely to swallow large chunks of meat whole. Carnivores have the ability to consume large quantities of food at one time and can rest between meals. This is called ‘gorging’ in the wild and has its place in hunting large game. Carnivores can consume large meals after a hunt and then rest until the next opportunity for a meal.

hi yes agree greedy gulper or brake fast bowls are good, although my lab managed to pick it up and tip his food over floor!!!
Also put tennis bull in with food, this tends to slow them down slightly.
But yes labs are very prone to eating food fast, and anything come to that matter or at least mine do if i let them, turn you back for 2 seconds and toast is gone.

Had the same issue with sam our beagle now i feed all his kibble using a KONG tumbler which he loves and makes his meal last for about 10 mins.

Also I've never tried it but this bowl has also been recommended on a few occasions.

Also you could try buying a flat baking tray and spreading out his food so he can't eat it all in one go?

Also as fleur suggested, putting it in treat balls and kongs is also a good idea!

my vacuum cleaner is the same....sorry i meant labrador

i use an anti gulp bowl otherwise the food seems to instantly vaporise when he looks at it, he was eating so fast he was struggling to breath as he got older and was spluttering. i also use a kong wobbler sometimes, works even better than the bowl and keeps them occupied for ages as they need to work to get the food out. don`t use it so often these days as i need to be sure that jake eats it all and doesn`t share with syd and it takes so long for him to eat it i`d go crazy if i had to stand and watch that twice a day
