Bathing a puppy - what shampoo?

Is it ok to use baby shampoos on my puppy or should I go for a dog shampoo? I love her puppy smell so something that will still have her smelling nice

Smile colloidal oatmeal with no fragrance is very mild & safe

i would use a dog-shampoo, not a human-one - but i would NOT use a flea or tick shampoo, as they are toxic.
fleas & ticks can be drowned, once the surface-tension of water is broken; insecticide is overkill.

a colloidal oatmeal shampoo is especially mild, it is less likely to cause dry skin, flaking & itching.

i'd avoid perfumes since dogs' noses are very sensitive, & their skin can react to scents, too.
being nice & clean smells just fine! botanical ingredients can give a nice light fragrance,
are meant to clean & condition, not as 'cologne', & are generally safe: aloe, lavender, rosemary, etc.

i think anyone who makes their dog stink of Pin~a Colada or Watermelon or BubbleGum or Bonne Nuit
is a bit sadistic - the poor dog has to walk around in a reeking cloud for a week or more, night & day.

i'd rinse very, very well - soap or shampoo / detergent is horribly drying & itchy to skin,
so rinsing 3 times & making sure the dog's coat won't 'suds' when squeezed is important.

i've also used plain old-fashioned Murphy's vegetable-oil SOAP mixed half-&-half with water as shampoo
for dogs with sensitive skin; dilute it before using or it will take forever to rinse out the suds.

Re: Bathing a puppy - what shampoo?

I would only use a dog/puppy shampoo, a dogs skin is more sensitive than ours and using our shampoos can cause a bad skin reaction.

Re: Bathing a puppy - what shampoo?

The one i use yes is flea and tick but its natural oils and low foam

I think its all down to personal choice ive never had a issue with using a flea shampoo on lola if anything her fur is much better and shiny

Re: Bathing a puppy - what shampoo?

Puppy shampoo, but you should not bathe a dog/puppy unless it's absolutely required and the dog is really filthy. Bathing should not be standard practise.

my dogs share my house - & they have also been therapy pets, visiting people.
U cannot visit someone in a hospital without bathing the dog thoroughly & brushing their teeth.

one of my dogs also had a fleabite allergy; 9-months of the year he was bathed every 10 to 14 days.
he had no skin problems, the bathing drowned any fleas, & he was always clean.
