Dog being sick

Hi all.

The last 2 days Milo (he is 14 months now) has been sick a few times. Its not bile, or frothy, it just looks like his biscuits soaked in water. About once an hour he makes like a barking/cough noise and usually nothing happens but about 4 times he's thrown up after.
He seems to be his normal self in other ways, maybe a little less energy but that's about it.
His stomach isn't bloated and he hasn't got the runs.

Do you think he's just eaten something that doesn't agree with him? I'd have thought he'd be over it by now.

Maybe he has something stuck in his throat?

If anyone has any advice I'd appreciate it, we're not sure if he needs to go the vets or not cos as I said he does seem fine in other ways.

Re: Dog being sick

Perhaps he has Kennel Cough?

I would go to the vet to have him checked; but when you ring for an appointment say that you say suspect he may have KC - they may come out to see you rather than you bring a potentially contagious dog into the waiting room.

Let us know how you get on.

Re: Dog being sick

It is possible he has something stuck - it is also possible that he has kennel cough.

If you place your finger where his adams apple would be and gently compress if he coughs it is likely he has kennel cough and you will need to give your vet a call.

It could be that the coughing is causing him to take undigested food back up. However, 2 days is long enough to be waiting and watching - think the vet is the best option.

Re: Dog being sick

I would say the vets, if mine is repeatedly sick (as in more than 2 times and over a few days) I deffo go the vets. I know its expensive (£25 just to turn up at mine) but deffo worth it just to make sure all is ok.

Is he bringing his food up after eating it is that what you mean by his biscuits
soaked in water? If he is bringing back his meals and inbetween doing non productive vomiting and its gone on for a couple of days if he was mine I think I would be getting him checked out. He could have a blockage.
Has he been defeacating normally too or is this less frequent then normal or has he missed any.

Re: Dog being sick

Thanks for the replies.

I have squeezed his throat gently and he was just wagging his tail and happy, no coughing.

Would kennel cough make him cough all the time or just 4-5 coughs in a burst every 1-2 hours.

He seems to be pooing normally but I think I'll get my husband to take him to the vets as soon as he gets in from work later.

Cheers

Re: Dog being sick

Stella used to do something similar to this. It turned out that she was bolting down her dry food too quickly and then drinking. The food would expand in her stomach causing her to bring it up again. No drama or anything.
All we did was put warm water on her food before we gave it to her and problem solved.
Obviously nearly all her vomiting was within an hour after eating though. If yours is vomiting at random intervals I doubt it's the same thing, but just a suggestion.
Good luck!

Sorry I didn't reply sooner. Lots of news on Milo

We did get to the bottom of it, turns out a squirrel had been leaving hazelnuts and nut shells at the bottom of the garden from next door's tree.
He went fine for a few days then I caught him crunching one and sure enough about half an hour later he was heaving again

Now we just check the garden every day to make sure anything the squirrel drops is moved away.

BUT, there is another problem! I took the kids out for a couple of hours as usual yesterday and left Milo in the kitchen as usual. When we got back there was broken glass and blood all over the floor! He'd somehow knocked a glass off the worktop and smashed it.
He's shaved a big chunk off one of his pads and also got a deep cut between the pads. We took him to the vets straight away to get it looked at and then had to take him back today to be sedated and have it stitched! Its cost about £200! Thank god for insurance eh?

Anyway, here he is

Feeling very sorry for himself now LOL
