How tolerant is your OH?

I have to say mine is really good. He said I could have a pup, but he really only likes little dogs. Along came Molly Springer-and he adores her. We already had Jay Jrt. Then Scruff comes for foster and doesn't leave, same now for Evie the Dachshund.
I spend a small fortune on them including importing Raw meat and I talk everything 'doggie' and still he puts up with me without whinging, I must drive him mad really

Re: How tolerant is your OH?

hmmm i wouldn`t say my oh is tolerant as such, more like he has no say in it i do pretend to at least ask him when i`m thinking of adding more to the mad house and at least pretend to listen to him but he knows better than i do that once i`ve made my mind up i`ve basically went out and got said pet in a metaphorical sense. it does sound quite mean as it is his house too but i do everything for the animals, even the ones that he wanted - he wouldn`t even clean the litter tray while i was away for a week and kept saying he`d do it in 5 mins till his mom eventually came down and cleaned it, won`t even do it now i`m pregnant. i dunno i`ve just always been of the mind set that if someone isn`t willing to help out equally with things then they shouldn`t get a huge say in it he doesn`t really moan about them though, well only about jake when he has one of his barking episodes but i think everyone moans about that as he`s so loud when he barks it makes you jump lol

i should have added that although i said my oh doesn`t do anything for the animals i meant anything mucky LOL he plays with them all the time and he`ll sit on the floor at night so jake can have the sofa...saying that though he was the one who talked me into having jake as i had vowed never to have another dog after losing my baby so jake`s always been a spoilt dog!

Re: How tolerant is your OH?

He is very tolerant and easy going, BUT when someone lies or pi$$es him off run

We were only gona have 1 dog, i'm up 2 four, but he adores them all and will do anything 4 them, and I mean anything, so i'm lucky in that respect as he has the same vlaues as me regarding animals

Re: How tolerant is your OH?

My OH is very tolerant when it comes to me talking doggy He does get fed up when i come up with reasons to buy new toys/collar(Tummel actually needs one soon and OH did agree as we're using his emergency collar right now and it's not nice ) but when it comes to getting a dog he'll sit and "listen" (if men can actually do that) for a couple of hours.

He's the more practical out of the 2 of us, we both want a 2nd dog(looking at possibly a DDB as he loves them and i think they look and sound like lovely dogs) but at the moment we're just not in the right place for one(and have no money ) and he has to keep reminding me(i'm dreadfully puppy broody right now) why we're not because i get very excited about getting another puppy

Re: How tolerant is your OH?

My OH is great

He was more a cat person(we have 3) but was all up for us getting a pup even if i went on about it for ages

He will do most of her walks as im disabled and most days cant move much

He is pretty much just as much involved with her as i am when it comes to training and stuff

Although he does raise an eyebrow when i say o00oo0o she needs this and o0o0 that as well lol

Re: How tolerant is your OH?

At one point I was up to 7 hamsters, 19 rats, 14 mice, 8 gerbils, 4 cats and a dog and I knew I was pushing it with him. Now I have less rodents and more importantly to him less cages, but we have an extra dog so I would say hes pretty tolerant, having said that I do all the work with all the animals so if he doesnt like it then its tough

Re: How tolerant is your OH?

My other half isn't a dog lover and never wanted a dog but I persuaded him

I grew up with a cocker spaniel and I adored her. When we had to get her put to sleep due to a brain tumour when I was 17 I was devastated and always wanted another dog but my parents didn't.

Now I live with my partner (we are 22 and 23) and I have gone on and on for the last couple of years about wanting a dog but he has always said no. Somehow I managed to persuade him and last week we picked up our little bichon/shih tzu cross and she is great!

The funny thing is my partner is in love already, giving her cuddles and playing with her - it's so cute to watch! Never thought I would see the day lol

Re: How tolerant is your OH?

My OH loves the dogs just as much as I do and in fact is loads more soppy about them than me. When I was considering putting them in kennels for ONE night, he wouldn't let me He'd let me have as many dogs as I wanted and it was also him who found Louie in the woods He does also play with them and walks them... occasionally

BUT I don't think he'd like to do it all, all the research into food, 2 or 3 daily walks, training, vets etc etc. But that's fine because I like doing all of that stuff. He isn't as patient as me with Louie's 'meeting other dog' issues either.

Re: How tolerant is your OH?

Lol i should have said, i was up to 14 reptiles and my OH was ok, his mum insisted i halved my collection if i wanted a dog(then when we got Tummel she was adamant she never said that(she did)) and i had friends that would take the lizards so i sold all 6 of them, 2 snakes and my tortoise Jim(he went first).

I made my OH sit down and give me some guidelines on what animals he does and doesn't like for when we have our own house with acres of garden, i'm allowed up to 6 dogs(not including fosters for rescues(he doesn't know this yet)), 2 cats, 2 donkeys/goats/shetland ponies, 4 guinea pigs, 4 ferrets, 2 pigs and 14 chickens at one time this isn't including indoor animals(meaning ones that have to be inside) like reptiles and fish

So yes...my OH is very tolerant when it comes to animals, i'd be taking care of most of them(he wants the donkey/goat/pony so he'd have to care for them) anyway so he doesn't mind much
