He humps but he's neutered!!

I have a 20 month old GSD who was castrated when he was 6 months old. I had him "done" as early as possible so he would not develop any unwanted habits. However, he constantly tries to hump my Akita bitch who was neutered before we even had him!!! Anybody any experience with this/ any ideas?

Re: He humps but he's neutered!!

It might just be teenager behaviour. At that age he will be trying to work out his place in the family.
Although all 3 of mine still hump on occassion! Adam every night after tea, Heidi humps her lemur glove puppet toy and Hannah will hump the other 2 when they are playing.......and sometimes the cats if they sit still for too long!!

Dogs like to lick their bits, bark at stuff and randomly hump!!

Re: He humps but he's neutered!!

LOL my bitch used to hump everything. it`ll be a dominance thing so neutering won`t have had any effect on it unfortunately

Re: He humps but he's neutered!!

I agree with the others, sounds like simply dominance humping rather than anything sexual

Re: He humps but he's neutered!!

Just to clarify it is NOT dominance.
It's normally when dogs are excited/playing. It's normal, it's not sexual or dominant. Can also be stress relief for them, a way to exert excess energy.

Here's some ideas which really helped my with Parker recently, he kinda went through a stage even though he's old enough to know better lol. The first 2 ideas should be good for some laughs as well...

There is no such thing as dominance, as Shrap has said. Dogs hump for all sorts of reasons only a small percentage of which are sexual. They do it in play, they do it out of excitement, they do it to calm themselves down. It is normal dog behaviour and has nothing to do with whether he has been neutered.

My two will both do it if they get too friendly with another dog and they were both done a long time ago. I don't allow it because they are enormous and could seriously hurt another dog, and I don't let them do it to each other for the same reason.

Re: He humps but he's neutered!!

My boy humped constantly when we first got him I now realise he does it through stress or excitement. He gets bumpy with my other dog when we go camping. He has worked through DA issues and one stage HD would get hunpy if he didn't know how to move on from a meet and greet with another dog

He also tries to hump my friends toddler but only now if his nappy needs changing! He is veryover excited by the lad he loves him to bits

Re: He humps but he's neutered!!

This has alaways bemused me. People say if you have a aggressive dog get them neutered as it reduces the testosterone. however the above posts say it is not sexual and it is not dominance. But it is stress release or excitement. If it's not sexual or dominant and it is excitement or stress why get the dog neutered?
Once again this neutering of dogs goes against my experience with dogs. I know dogs that are entire and mix quite happily, No aggression, no humping. So based on the posts above. I can assume they are not stressed or excited dogs.
But for those ofyou that do have humping issues and do have stressed dogs or excited dogs and if you do and recognise this, what are you doing about it, training wise?
