when introducing a new puppy to an adult dog....

...is it ok to get another of the same gender or should one get an opposing gender? Or doesn't it really matter?

Re: when introducing a new puppy to an adult dog....

I dont think it is massively important, although most people say its best to have a girl/boy combo if you want another dog.
Although if you have a bitch who hates other bitches or a dog that fights with other dogs or vice versa then it makes sense to stick with the sex they like best.

It also depends on the breed. Breeds like Malamutes etc can be prone to same sex aggression.

I have 3 crossbreeds and went girl boy girl and had no problems at all.

Re: when introducing a new puppy to an adult dog....

You probably wont have a problem if you get another Chi. They are known to be clannish and tend to really enjoy each others company.
If you want another breed then regardless of size it had better be prepared to be the Chihuahuas' bitch!!LOL
PoisonGirl likes this.
